With about a dozen Seattle Sounders Academy players earning scholarships to Division I college programs around the country, we've known for some time that there's a fair amount of talent in the youth ranks. Now, we have yet another sign. DeAndre Yedlin, who will be attending reigning national champion Akron in the fall, has been called into next week's United States U-18 training camp in Portland.
Yedlin joins 23 other players, most of which are either in various academies or already signed to MLS contracts. Yedlin is one of four players in camp currently connected to a MLS academy Among the pros that have been called into camp are Victor Pineda of the Chicago Fire and Jon Kempin of Sporting Kansas City.
While in camp, the U-18 team will play a friendly against the Portland Timbers on April 19 and against the University of Portland and the University of Washington on April 23.
