Jason Kreis reacts to horrific injury
Kreis had not yet seen the replay (but had heard a lot about it) when he made this statement:
"I would like to see the players take some accountability within themselves," he said. "I know it's done over in England where the players union will have sanctions and look very, very harshly among themselves, because they've got to treat each other with the proper amount of respect and the proper amount of professionalism."
"If it was anything like everybody is saying it was, I hope there are strong, strong sanctions, and not only from the league, but I'd like to see the players union consider sanctioning themselves as well," said Kreis.
Interesting idea for another, independent authority (the players union) to also provide help in addressing the problem of reckless, physical play in the league.

coaches. Only someone with their head in the sand could think that this was anything but a retalitation foul
and dirty play. I wonder if Kreis has heard Mullan’s comments because he seems to be calling him out about being accountable for one’s actions.
What about the Rapid's Organization?
Has the Rapid’s organization come out with an sort of apology or a statement that Mullan’s behavior and comments are inappropriate and are contrary to its coaching and philosophy?
If not, then they should be sanctioned as well for having fostered an environment than encourages dirty play, retaliation and lack of accountability.

Isn't there a difference betweent "fostering" and "objecting?"
I would say yes.
There is no evidence that they accept, nor that they encourage, nor foster that type of tackle. They have also been quite active in helping Zakuani in getting top notch treatment.

he brings up a good point
the players have the most to lose with these kinds of tackles so they should do something together against it as well.
This is good to hear.
The comparison (though different in some key ways) I think of is the mlb player’s union on the topic of steroids – and how they neglected the long-term perspective. I really hope there is some follow through on Kreis’ words by the union.
Kreis talks about sanctions. Does anyone know the types of sanctions he is referring to that have taken place in England (or elsewhere for that matter) by player’s unions?
Well he's 33 already
So I guess he’s nearing the end of his career anyways
