PrintThe pleasures of aggregate scoring and away goals mean that in tonight's most important match in MLS history, Real Salt Lake is slightly ahead in this match already. But they are going against Monterrey, and the Rayados are pretty good as Sounders fans know quite well. Some would say that the Mexican side should come away winners.
That rare English post saying so though will be outweighed by a majority of MLS and US soccer fans instead being #MLS4RSL. One could like all of RSLSoapBox's preview work of this two-leg match, but it would take way too much effort. Go read. The more neutral view would be at SBNation.com/Soccer.
The important news is that Real Salt Lake has a huge home advantage, due to elevation and stadium atmosphere. They are missing Kyle Beckerman, but Monterrey is missing de Nigris.

Maybe a stupid question
Can someone explain in in a little more detail the away goal rule? I understand it’s a tie-breaker so If tonights game were to land in a tie RSL would win, but what if say it tied 2-2 which there would be no away goal advantage?
Is there anything else to the rule other than tie breaker?
It is a tie breaker only
so a 2-2 result would be the only way to get Extra Time tonight.

It was a different team tonight. Urgency never seemed to be there until it was waaaaaaay too late. Missed chances in the first half and RSL was just kinda shrugging oh well.

I enjoyed just reading while watching the games and kinda feel like the team that played better was going to win. RSL will look at several of those missed chances and just wonder.

But I noticed Sigi has these excuses sometimes. More specifically he was complaining how the Sounders first two out of the three CCL games were away.

Hope they do great in December and I’m glad they beat RSSL. Now the Sounders can be the first MSL team to go to the club world cup! This makes that loss down in Monterrey hurt a little more though…
