"He's a guy that's right there knocking on the door. He's right on the verge and in this next period of time he's going to get his minutes on the field." - Sigi Schmid on Mike Fucito

i dont get this part of the quote:
“Substitutions sometimes get determined by tactical changes, by trying to get somebody off the field. Sometimes what ends up happening is you have injuries that change things. Obviously Evans was someone we weren’t planning to sub, so if we don’t sub Evans in that game there’s a good chance Fucito comes on in the game against Portland.”

we had one sub left regardless of evans injury

Quick question

What kind of play does Lamar Neagle bring when he’s on the field?

by Ruben Pagan on May 18, 2011 9:31 PM PDT reply actions

My understanding is that Neagle has some background as a defender.

Therefore, like Leveque, bringing him on may have less offensive upside, but also less defensive downside when compared to Fucito.

I’m not saying its the right decision, but that’s just how I interpreted the Sigisub.

Hinton really likes him in reserve matches.

At least according to his Twitter.

Personally, I wish he had come on instead of Roger vs. PDX.

I know, I know…Timber-killer, blah blah blah.

He's looked great in reserves

I’d say he’s probably been the best Sounder in teh two games I saw

He can play F, RM, RB, and LM

Primarily a position and technique guy v Fucito’s speed and offense.

Tactical Changes?

What f—king tactical changes? It is mind boggling Sigi’s game planning of late. Fucito should have mass minutes by now and Sigi has Fucito sitting on his ass! It’s f—cking ridiculous! I also would be giving Estrada some time. I know I’m no coach, but Sigi has dropped the ball IMO.

Can you really with 100 percent honesty

Say that you haven’t seen him make tactical changes? Or is this just another “Sigi sucks” comment?

i agree with you

But do you think jaqua, neagle and levesque are all better then fucito??

by Sandra_R on May 19, 2011 7:58 AM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Jaqua and Neagle yes

Levesque shouldn’t be on the roster, never mind making the 18. I realise his ability to slot in just about anywhere is great, but he’s a significant drop below any other player when he’s on. I know Sigi like’s his veterans, but Levesque plays like a 2nd year player still.

Significant drop?

If you recall he recorded an assist last game, which is more than Jaqua has managed in over 100 more minutes.

by agtk on May 19, 2011 10:13 AM PDT up reply actions

I tend to agree with you

I do think he’s valuable and I’m glad we have him and I’m glad we protected him. There must be something we don’t know that’s keeping him off the field. Not something like Sigi doesn’t like him or he’s in the doghouse, but maybe he’s not as good as he was on college. I dunno.

I think he's probably just a bit rusty

He hasn’t gotten that much playing time over the last couple years thanks to injuries. So he’s getting time in the reserve league to round into form again. And if he misses some chances in the reserve league, the consequences aren’t nearly as meaningful, which is good for the team and the player. It’s another reason why the reserve league is great.

by ubelmann on May 19, 2011 10:50 AM PDT up reply actions

Agreed!

The reserve league is incredible. I’m so glad it’s back in place. Look at guys like Wahl who have totally stepped up and are now challenging for that spot.

And you’re probably right on Fucito. I have no doubt that in time he will be starting caliber.

tied for 8th on the club for all time goals scored

but in a mere fraction of the minutes of anyone else, in solo 7th with players on the team at this time. 1/3rd of the players ahead of him have been injured this season, as has he.

You have no questions as to why he isn’t playing more?
