Seattle Sounders v FC Dallas - Gamethread
FC Dallas enters Qwest Field and the Emerald City trying to continue its hot streak of 11 points in their last five games. Seattle Sounders FC continue to "figure it out on the field" from all the role, formation and personnel changes. The Toros of North Texas are 5-3-3 for 18 points and second in the Western Conference, while the Rave Green are 4-3-5 with 17 points in a jumble tied at third with their Saturday opponent (Real Salt Lake) and Cascadia rival Portland Timbers FC.
Both Sigi Schmid and Schellas Hyndman cut their coaching teeth in the college ranks, and developed their systems there. The 2011 MLS season offers each challenges to their long histories, with both losing MVP caliber players. Each side rests on the strength of their defenses, quality goalkeepers and offenses that are learning cohesion. South American players power both offenses; Alvaro Fernandez, Mauro Rosales and Fredy Montero for Seattle and Fabian Castillo and Marvin Chavez for Dallas.
The game is on KONG 6/16/106 and KIRO 97.3 FM at 7PM
Tickets are still available, some even below season ticket face value

I’m gonna go for a strong 2-0 or 2-1 tonight, in favor of the Sounders. I feel like this lineup might have some strong confidence with their ongoing run, and Jaqua and Montero might just click.

So the Riley vs Shea match-up gone,
I am afraid Alonso may be having to shade over to that side of the field a lot.
Sigi changing tactics??? really??? wowzers.....Montero and Fucito up front together
really interested to see how we react to that……isn’t this something most of didn’t think we’d ever see Sigi employ?

A "mohawk"
You will hear us on Brougham, you will hear us on Occidental, you will hear us on King. We are all around you, there is no escape.
Actually, I think the current term is "faux-hawk"
At least, that’s what my tween daughter calls it when one of the boys in her class wears his hair that way.
You are correct, IMO
But what I was more alarmed by was the nasty dye job.
///and the hills the greenest green...
Faux hawk
is when the hair is short and stands up mostly on its own. Shea definitely needs product. That’s my old-school definition anyway.
You will hear us on Brougham, you will hear us on Occidental, you will hear us on King. We are all around you, there is no escape.
To me it seems like not enough is clippered short
to be considered a proper ‘hawk. But it’s a little ’hawkier than a fauxhawk. Mostly I wish I had something better to talk about. :-(

Disappointing first half
Had several good opportunities, but couldn’t convert. Then gave up a goal on a counter.
Sound familiar?
again, the counter attack defense almost gave up another goal...
but we have had our chances at the other end…..we’re so close to having this even… the spacing has been a tad out of whack but i do like what fucito brings to the table so far ….
Life's what happens while you're making other plans
Lot of good looking opportunities.
I think they can equalize if they keep that play up.
well
so far minus a couple mistakes Seattle is looking decent.
They
are resting Riley for Saturdays game.
It seems like when our fullbacks get up in the attack, we are super vulnerable to the counter-attack
If only they were faster…or maybe Tetteh can one day fill in that role.
scott is giving me a heart attack
He sucks. The sad thing is that we are stuck with him.
I like this offense. We are finally creating chances

Yea
and there will be more times were we have 3 games in a week due the adjust schedule for potential CCL games.
Our offense looks great
Fernandez is channeling his inner-Zakuani with some of his tricky moves there on the left side. I like what I’m seeing from him.
Rosales is a lethal passer. I think we knew that already.
Fucito is fast.
Montero hasnt had that good of a game tho. Created some good opportunities though.

Dallas does
have a fine defensive. Loyd heading a ball off the line which was going in. if he wasn’t there.

They were awful together.
by Aaron Campeau on May 25, 2011 11:37 PM PDT up reply actions
I would like to see them with Evans/Ozzie in midfield
Probably not for a full game, but for part of a game. I’d have to watch again to know for sure, but my faulty memory tells me that a lot of the time Fucito got the ball it was because Fredy came back to link from the back to the front. If Fucito and Montero are both up front but Evans is sitting in front of Ozzie, then I potentially see Fucito and Montero have a little more room to operate and getting the ball at their feet more, rather than having to win the ball out of the air. Potentially, anyway.
Would
you rather see Levesque/Jaqua with Montero?
Via @joshuamayers:
Seattle outshot Dallas 19-7, 15-4 in the second half. Sounders FC also had 9 corner kicks. No goals.
Sigi Schmid’s thoughts on Fredy Montero tonight: “Needs to score. End of story. … That’s what he’s paid to do.”
In other words...
Look to see Fucito and Jaqua up front and FM17 on the bench at least once in the next couple of games.
I doubt
Fuctio is starting vs RSL. Don’t want to overdue it on Fuctio since this was his first full 90 in Rave green.
at least montero gets shots.
i believe jaqua this season has gotten no goals, no assists, and one shot on goal

Unfornatelly
for Montero to really work as a forward he seriously needs a partner for the other forward spot.
Jaqua & montero ‘09 N’kufo & Montero 2nd half of ’10
Those were time he has been scoring or getting assists. So far i haven’t really seen any sort of partnership this year. Although white and montero could been one for this year if White didn’t have that blood colt.
montero looked better tonight with fucito
he was actually hustling unlike other games, and fucito actually played good balls to him.
while white is out id like to see this partnership
Montero looked like absolute crap tonight.

To put it mildly.
That was one of the worst outings I’ve seen him have.

I disliked the notion of this partnership
And I disliked it when it was put into practice.
While we’re at it, Flaco was pulled because he played like absolute crap, the midfield sucked (cept you, Ozzie. Love you) and Zach Scott is taking years off my life.
by Brian Floyd on May 25, 2011 11:31 PM PDT up reply actions
Scott was great against Shea in the air
which Riley wouldn’t have been.
He probably won 12 headers off of Shea.
Nos Audietis
On Montero
I never bought into the meme that Fredy was lazy, but he was absolutely ineffectual tonight. I lost count of the number of times where he got muscled off the ball, or took three touches and passed the ball backwards, or where he received a pass and a move just died. I don’t know if he can be effective when the game isn’t called his way.
He can be both ineffective and not lazy
He’s gotten moved into a role again where he spends a lot of time fighting to get the ball out of the air rather than getting the ball at his feet. And he’s doing it up top against rather large centerbacks. I think with the short turnaround, he was gassed. His wrist is clearly still bothering him, though I don’t know if it’s really affecting his performance.
I thought the big problem tonight was that there was no link between Ozzie and the front line. All the non-Alonso midfielders seemed to get pushed way upfield after we went down a goal, and at times Ozzie would dribble and dribble and dribble, eventually get some space, and then he’d still have to make a long pass to get the ball up to the front line, which at times seemed to include just about everyone and his brother, in a sort of 4-1-0-5.
Still, Fredy’s touch betrayed him more than once and he had a bad night. At the same time, I didn’t think Rosales looked all that great out there, either. Rosales seems to want to be a winger, and I’m all for him out right, but if tonight was any indication, he doesn’t fit as a CAM.
