Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

During Wednesday’s demoralizing pinball of a game at Qwest Field, the main reason for the Sounders’ failure to score seemed obvious to we season ticket holders in Section 119. Schmid’s choice at forward, Mike Fucito, couldn’t finish. Schmid’s second-half subs Nate Jaqua and Roger Levesque didn’t have the skill or speed to penetrate Dallas’ defense.

Meanwhile, star Fredy Montero was bracketed by Dallas defenders and, though he ranged from sideline to sideline, didn’t have room to get the ball.

But then I woke up Thursday to read Schmid praising Fucito and scolding Montero. Were we even in the same stadium?

Sigi Schmid, What Game Are You Watching?

I'm torn. I agree that's not as inspiring a lineup as I thought it was pregame; I agree Fredy was swamped and frustrated on Wednesday. But what's Sigi supposed to do, conjure up replacements for OBW and Zak?

I like Seth, but this is mostly ragepost.
When Schmid has gotten players that do–Freddie Ljungberg, Blaise Nkufo and Alvaro Fernandez, all of whom played in World Cups — he has gotten their worst soccer. Ljungberg and Nkufo asked out of Seattle, and Fernandez has started only eight of the Sounders’ 13 games.

If El Flaco departs, then we’ve got a problem. But not yet. I still approve of Sigi and didn’t see Ljungberg or Nkufo as net losses.

I can’t wait for us to get healthy.

Claiming someone "couldn't finish" is just silly

Fucito was the offense wednesday night and only a tip save over the bar by the MLS leader in shutouts kept him from a goal.

I still want him to bury that

but yeah, he puts shots on goal. Sounderitis, to me, is not even putting it on frame [see this year’s Patient Zero in Friberg].

Most of the time

it seems like the Sounders take one too many touches in the box when they have an open shot and should have taken it. Not just missing the net entirely.
