Portland Timbers Vs. Seattle Sounders, Reserves: GameThread - Sounder 2-nil Final
Coming off a huge win and today being Memorial Day, you can be excused if you didn't realize the Seattle Sounders were playing the Portland Timbers. Of course, it's only the reserves, but if you've got nothing better to do, you can listen to the game here.
Looks like a few familiar names are in the game for the Sounders, including Fredy Montero. Other players of note are Roger Levesque starting at full back and Miguel Montano and Michael Tetteh in the midfield. There are also three Sounders academy players on their bench.
The Timbers' most notable starter is probably Eddie Johnson, who has not yet made an appearance for the senior team after leading USSF D-2 in scoring last year.
Timbers starters: GK-Brown; D-Braun, D-R. Smith, D-Horst (C), D-Taylor; M-Pore, M-Marcelin, M-Moffat, M-Lopez; F-Johnson, F-Umony. Subs: F-Sp. Thompson, D-J. Gonzalez, M-Ogunyemi
Sounders starters: GK-Boss; D-Levesque, D-Scott, D-Graham, D-Gonzalez, M-Montano, M-Carrasco, M-Seamon, M-Tetteh, M-Noonan, F-Montero. Subs: GK-Meredith, F-Okoli, M-Estrada, F-Yedlin, F-Kovar
Final Boxscore after the break
The next Sounders FC Reserve League match is June 7 versus Vancouver. First kick is 7 p.m. PT at Starfire Sports Stadium. Admission is free with donations accepted for the Sounders FC community partners.

Congratulations to
Okoli, Yedlin, and Kovar. Making the 18 (uh, 16 I guess) says good things about these 3

Great, Montero apparently hurt
Took a hard fall. Hopefully nothing too bad.

i wondered
about that. Ford hurt or something?
Sounders seem to have better of play so far
Three corners, the last of which was nearly a goal from Zach Scott off delivery from Miguel Montano

I get the feeling the defense...
…is a bit susceptible to quick, direct play.
although interpreting events by the emotion in a...
…biased announcer’s voice is an inexact science.
Levesque seems to be joining attack quite a bit

Wow, sounds like ref losing control
Questionable challenge by sounders followed by a two-handed shove by timbers and not so much as a foul called.

and why
the heck do they not have communication devices with them.
Timbers go off crossbar
David Horst header still 0-0 through 16 mins

Like hearing the ECS
Love hearing the Seattle supports that showed on the Portland Radio broadcast

Timbers twitter said several dozen Seattle supporters in stands
which would be several dozen more than Portland Reserves had here.

Would love to see Roger score
Would be fun to see it happen and even more reason for Portland fans get upset at him. =)
Noonan with a open shot and miss. =(

reserve games are just such a wonder opportunity...
to see what Pat Noonan has to offer this team ;)
Strong says five chances so far
That’s got to be either 3-2 or 4-1 Sounders favor

Weird day
Whitecaps, and Chicago coaches are let go. Koke(sp?) is no longer with the club in Huston.

3rd?
Well I was expectingToronto’s coach to be let go.
by TheDarkPassenger on May 30, 2011 3:10 PM PDT reply actions
I was talking about Koke
that was the first thing happened today followed by whitecaps firing their coach and 3rd was Chicago firing their coach.
I really hope
This doesn’t happen. Winter may not be the new Mourinho, but the last thing TFC needs is stability and the reality is that their problems are as much down to an inadequate squad as to the coach’s ability.
I really doubt it will
Mark my words, barring total meltdown Winter at least gets one offseason to try to turn it around.

True
But the wheels really came off the TFC bus that game. They looked horrid. I think we’ll see at least one more complete blow-out of TFC before Winter is able to get to the off-season. There’s not much a coach can do when the team completely gives up like that.
There might be 2 or 3 more big blowouts
I’ll still be shocked if Winter doesn’t make it through the season.

Like a mention from Arlo with a graphic on the local broadcasts.

It's going to be easier for Portland to draw for..
…secondary matches if they are capped at 18K for league games. 21K for league+reserves is still far behind 37K for league+reserves.

okay
i’m really lost here. I thought noonan was subbed out.
we've had gonzalez mentions too post apparent subbing.
being allowed to put more than 11 players on is a clear reason why we’re winning ;)

Hopefully the Sounders could get similar numbers
for a game on a holiday at Qwest. 3390 is pretty awesome for a reserve match.

So, to anyone who actively watched/followed the game: Did Montano act out again or did he manage to keep his calm?
I see that he wasn’t booked…
