Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

Finally when the FSC announcer crows about how awesome it is in HD, it might actually be in HD. For some people in Washington, anyway. It's on channel 618. My Tivo hasn't picked it up yet in Seattle, but I think it just hasn't updated its lineup yet.

Just

comcast. Although Verizon FiOS already has FSC HD but Frontier FiOS last i heard doesn’t have it yet.

by gstommylee on Jun 1, 2011 12:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Frontier FIOS is a dead-end

As a subscriber, I’m really pissed about it, but the fact is that Frontier has absolutely no intention of lifting a finger to make their version of FIOS TV better. We’re more likely to see Frontier FIOS TV phased out entirely than we are to see one single additional channel.

Frontier doesn’t want to be in the TV business.

by Xylorjax on Jun 1, 2011 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Frontier is too small

They don’t have the size/buying power to negotiate the same deals that Verizon did. They will be phasing out their TV service and pushing their customers to satellite.

by Christopher David Maddux on Jun 1, 2011 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Not true

They are still going to provide TV service, they are just outsourcing their end to satellite.

by B-Lot tailgater on Jun 2, 2011 7:56 AM PDT up reply actions

I'm actually shocked by this.

Frontier has been giving FiOS customers the shaft since they bought the service from Verizon.

by BrianL on Jun 2, 2011 12:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Their customer service is awful

But network DVR and fiber optic picture rule.

by B-Lot tailgater on Jun 2, 2011 3:25 PM PDT up reply actions

This almost makes it tempting to renew my cable subscription..

…almost. I think to get a package with FSC HD (in HD) in Seattle is basically $90/month (maybe a bit more with taxes) with Comcast (my only option since I rent.) Not having cable basically saves enough money for us to pay for our two season tickets.

Bingo

And espn3.com for all of the ESPN games. Digital television did wonders for over-the-air broadcasting. And for the occasional away FSC game, I tend to meet up with some friends at the Iron Bull in Wallingford, since it’s close to where I live and they usually put the Sounders on the projector.

by ubelmann on Jun 1, 2011 3:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Over the air is not something I had thought about

There are always internet feeds, but I find the illegitimate ones way too unreliable to watch the Sounders on.

by agtk on Jun 1, 2011 4:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Where I lived in Wallingford a couple years back...

…it was actually a struggle to figure out how to adjust my antenna to get all the available channels, because it’s harder to tune in channels when your feedback is essentially binary (yes I am getting a signal or no I am not getting a signal) as opposed to the analog signal which allows you to home in on the correct antenna configuration a little more easily. But once I got it going, it’s been money.

Broadstripe cable TV sucks

I dropped Broadstripe TV over a year ago when Direct TV added FSC HD and Goltv HD. I couldn’t be happier and broadstipe’s internet is the only thing worth subscribing too in the North Beacon Hill neighborhood.

by chazz4444 on Jun 1, 2011 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

I still think it's funny that...

in order for me to get GolTV, broadcasting entirely in English (I’m sure you can switch SAP since it’s a bilingual channel, but I’ve never found a good way on digital cable, so I just leave it at default settings… and at default, it’s always been English), I had to switch to the Spanish language pack with Comcast (literally the only stuff I see on there in Spanish is the local comcast ads).

Man I wish I had that channel in HD… am definitely glad to have it, though.

by mistuhp on Jun 1, 2011 4:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Though I shouldn't be too harsh.

I mean, they did finally start offering online bill payment a few months ago!

Wishing for Comcast?

You have got to be the first one ever to do that. I can’t imagine how bad a cable company would have to be for me to want Comcast….

by B-Lot tailgater on Jun 2, 2011 8:30 AM PDT up reply actions

Heh heh

Really, Comcast has been stellar compared to what went before. When it was AT&T and before that TCI it was a constant nightmare of outages, messed-up pictures, missing channels, and customer service that would shame the KGB.

by Fnarf on Jun 2, 2011 1:15 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't mind Comcast...

…except I wish there were more alternatives to push their prices down. Their margins in Seattle must be sick.

by ubelmann on Jun 2, 2011 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

I've never had issues with them

Internet is fast, TV picture is usually fine. Although I only do the $12 limited cable to avoid the $10 surcharge of only having internet from them.

Dish Network has had it in HD since the start.

Soccer in SD sucks. Actually anything in SD sucks.

Worse than SD

If FSC had been broadcasting their English games in Standard Def before, I wouldn’t have minded. But the bizarre pixelated compressed feed they were showing most of the time was closer to bad Youtube than SD. Just shocking. The players all had haloes, and you couldn’t tell their hair color let alone their shirt number.

by Fnarf on Jun 2, 2011 1:17 PM PDT up reply actions

It's true that somehow...

…FSC’s picture quality managed to be shockingly poor in every way.

by ubelmann on Jun 2, 2011 1:21 PM PDT up reply actions

FSN SD is the same way

Its like someone wiped grease all over the camera lenses they are filming with.

by B-Lot tailgater on Jun 2, 2011 3:24 PM PDT up reply actions

I watched a replay of England v Bulgaria just because I could

I also wanted to make sure that it worked on my cable box.

Wow....

Euro season ends, then on the day I pick my new apartment in Peru, we finally get FSC HD here. What timing… I guess I can watch Gold Cup and the occasional road Sounders FSC game until mid-July.

by mistuhp on Jun 1, 2011 4:44 PM PDT reply actions

Weak!

So far today the only HD seems to be on the commercials.
