US Open Cup Pickem Standings After Round One
Sixteen teams have already been eliminated from the 2011 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup after the first day of play, but our Pickem contestants are still going strong. Our current leader is bmvaughn who promised he'd go for the early points with a pile of lower division picks. But not as many lower division picks as Jeff Kusowski who started at the cheapest teams and kept picking until he ran out of cash. That gave him 21 teams and dreams of upsets, but unfortunately those upsets rarely materialized and only 6 of those minnows remain. At the other end are players like Kalani and JWAY who picked multiple MLS teams and are biding their time until the big dogs enter the bracket.
The most picked team was the Kitsap Pumas, who combined local ties with a reasonable price. Fortunately for the 18 players who picked them, they won last night in a dramatic penalty shootout that featured 7 misses and went 9 rounds before the Pumas won 6-5. The most picked team that was eliminated was Chattanooga FC, who got 11 picks despite taking on a USL-Pro team in the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The least-picked winners were Harrisburg City, who were the only team not to be picked by anyone despite playing a lower-division opponent in the first round.
Next Tuesday the Kitsap Pumas will take on the Real Colorado Foxes at Bremerton Memorial Stadium. Check their site as details emerge.
Full standings are after the jump. Be sure to check your results. I can't promise there isn't a data entry error that's robbing you of points.

Pumas announced via their FB page..
…that all tickets to next Tuesdays USOC match are just $5. Falls on a work night for me, but for 5 bucks that’s pretty sweet.
I wish my name showed up as JWay instead of JWAY..
I did a poor job of randomly picking. I guess I’m rooting for a Sounders over NYRB finals.

Of my 8 teams, only 2 play each other
So I’m guaranteed another point, and possibly as many as 7 in the 2nd round.
I planned mine that way.
I’ll need a couple upsets to get 5 again.
And none of my teams play at home…
Here's to hoping MLS teams lose
Except, of course, our Sounders.
Though the prospect of the Pumas playing in CCL is kinda fun to daydream about.
