Toronto FC Vs. Seattle Sounders, Match Card: Projected Lineups, Statistics

Photo

Projecting the Seattle Sounders starting lineup this week against Toronto FC was a bit challenging this week. It sounds like coach Sigi Schmid has not exactly been blown away by Mike Fucito, which could herald the return of Nate Jaqua to the starting lineup and it's not exactly clear whether or not Alvaro Fernandez is once again fit enough to start.

All that said, we're rolling the dice and projecting both Fucito and Fernandez to get the start. We see no reason why Fredy Montero won't be back starting, and it seems like Mauro Rosales may be more effective coming off the wing than in the middle where we expect to see Brad Evans get the nod. In the back, there's no reason to expect any big changes, although Patrick Ianni could be back in the mix.

TFC's lineup was provided to us by Waking the Red, who took time off his vacation to provide this to us. He sees Julian de Guzman reclaiming his starting spot after his stint with the Canadian National Team, and starting alongside former Souner Nathan Sturgis. He also projects youngster Doneil Henry receiving his third straight start.

Regarding the two forwards

I think it’s safe to say that if Fucito starts and we’re down in the ~60th minute, Jaqua subs in for him… and vice versa.

As best I can tell

He lost his starting spot for poor play. Pretty sure he’s no healthy.

I wouldn't say poor play

I think he’s a pretty average MLS player. It’s just that Brad, Alvaro, and Mauro all are better than him, and have established themselves as starting quality guys while Friberg was a little knocked up.

With 3 matches in 9 days

I think it’s pretty likely Ianni gets back in the mix at CB soon. Ianni and Hurtado started the last match vs. TFC, so could see those two again considering they shut the Reds out last time. Or maybe Sigi gives Hurtado a night off, which he might need after his late blunder against Vancouver.

I also feel like they are more effective with Rosales wide and Evans in the middle, so I hope to see that. Has anyone compared our rate stats for Rosales on the wing vs. the middle (CM or WF)?

You will hear us on Brougham, you will hear us on Occidental, you will hear us on King. We are all around you, there is no escape.

I like this lineup.

Tenacity from Fucito and Rosales. Technique from Montero and Fernandez. Evans doing what he does. Seems promising.

O'Brian White???

What’s the word on O’Brian? I saw him in the background of one of the training videos so he must be training. Any idea on when he is coming back?

The club continues to have no idea when OBW will be back

Most recently I saw him doing a fast jog. They are going to be careful with his progress. He hasn’t been a neutral in any drills yet, so nothing is imminent.

Sturgis

I haven’t paid the slightest bit of attention to TFC, is Sturgis expected because of injuries or is he actually getting good minutes? Always liked that guy, nothing spectacular but steady.
