Seattle Sounders Vs. New York Red Bulls, Match Card: Projected Lineups, TV Schedule, Statistics
The Seattle Sounders are about as close to full health as we've seen all season, although they will be without Jhon Kennedy Hurtado because of last week's red card. Our projected starting lineup features only one surprise, and that's Zach Scott getting the nod over Patrick Ianni at center back.
That's in quite stark comparison to the New York Red Bulls, who will be without five regular starters. Their lineup will feature two backup center backs, as well as two midfielders pushed into duty as forwards.
As for the rest of the Sounders lineup, we're expecting to see another game with Mike Fucito and Fredy Montero up top. We're also expecting to see Erik Friberg replace Brad Evans in the middle. Even though Evans doesn't appear on the injury report, he is nursing something and would seem better off with the rest. Alvaro Fernandez has earned his starting spot back, we think, as well.
By the way, word on the street is more than 50,000 tickets have already been sold for tonight's game.

If you would have told me
In 2010 that midway through 2011 we’d have Scott and Wahl starting on our back line, I’d probably have laughed at you.
Pleasantly surprised by both this year. Wahl has clearly shown his value on the pitch being the closest thing we have to Beckham, and Scott has done quite well commanding the back line during reserve matches. Scott brings an added dimension of versatility as well, and while he’s good in the air I wouldn’t say he’s better than Ianni.
If you’re going to give him a start, better to do it with against a depleted team so no complaints from me.
"If you would have told me" is a line I've been thinking of lately a bit...
If you would’ve told me:
-Wahl starts and Scott gets minutes in league games,
-Nkufo never plays,
-Zak is out,
-A trialist is a key starter, and one of the better performers thus far,
-Our leading scorer is Evans, with all of four goals,
and
-We still actually have somewhat of a shot at the shield,
I would have helped you find a padded room.
Really, this is a pretty good season, even with all the weirdness. But that’s football.
Something tells me
We’re going to get a fair helping of Roger Levesque tonight.
You will hear us on Brougham, you will hear us on Occidental, you will hear us on King. We are all around you, there is no escape.
I expect a few more surprises in the lineup tonight
Don’t know what they are, but with another game coming up on Sunday, it would not surprise me to see it mixed up a little bit to provide a rest for some starters. And with the USOC match on Tuesday, I would expect it to be more likely regular starters be rested tonight as opposed to Sunday, such that those who don’t regularly start but start tonight will be rested for Tuesday.
I think that makes sense…
That's what I'd guess, too
I’m really hoping we can get a big lead early and just throttle NY, so we can take Montero off for Jaqua early. Then rest Jaqua/Fucito on Sunday so they can play on Tuesday.
