Seattle Sounders Vs. Colorado Rapids, MatchCard: Projected Lineups, Statistics
The Seattle Sounders will play their third competitive match in seven days on Saturday, meaning there will likely be some tweaks in the starting lineup. We initially expected this would be a game that Fredy Montero would possibly start on the bench, but came around to believe that he's just too hot to sit. There's also a good chance that Brad Evans gets back into the starting lineup, but we're thinking that Sigi Schmid will stay with the guys who have been playing so well -- Erik Friberg and Lamar Neagle. It also seems like Sigi like Roger Levesque starting alongside Montero, at least for now.
The rest of the lineup should be less controversial as we project Mauro Rosales to start on the right, Osvaldo Alonso once again patrolling the middle and a backline that looks pretty much how it has in recent weeks with the exception of Patrick Ianni stepping in for the dinged up Jhon Kennedy Hurtado.
The Colorado Rapids lineup was provided by Burgundy Wave. There are several changes from last week, but that's mainly because players are returning to health. None of these moves seemed particularly shocking and is probably about as close to their first-choice lineup as we've seen in some time.

I'm assuming Neagle over Flaco @ LW
due to the fact that Fernandez went the full 90 Wednesday?
I would love to see some Fucito action tomorrow, but no one seems to know what’s going on with him. Seeing him match up against “the fastest guy in the MLS” Wynne would be exciting, and would allow Fredy to attack against a cb that’s a bit slower.
and I understand you're asking that of Jeremiah...
Wednesday would seem to suggest that Sigi has not concerns over Alvaro’s immediate health. It would also suggest that he’s willing to cope with playing a few important players through some level of fixture congestion. If he’d like to work Neagle into the lineup, there are far better targets.
Thank you for the reminder
I don’t know why I was thinking Neagle came on as a sub. I must be losing my mind. So ignore my first statement please.
you're mind losing aside
Neagle has not played as much as Flaco this week, as he was a sub on Sunday. Our thinking was he’s probably a little more capable of going starter’s minutes than Flaco today.

Cool
I hope you guys understand how addicted you have made me and others to this site. I go through withdrawals without my several-times-a-day SAH fix.

I'm already tired of the Rapids playing the underdog card
I’ve already caught wind of at least one Colorado fan saying things like “this is a game Seattle will most likely win” or (in response to Mullan comments) “no need to get so riled up over a game Seattle should win.”
The speaker (most likely) hates to lose and/or be wrong, and wants to save face regardless of the result of the game. By playing the underdog card (a) if their team wins, they can cheer; and (b) if their team loses, they can say “see I told you so!”
My brother did this when we were kids all the time. It pissed me off then and it pisses me off now.
It’s annoying, but bearable, if the speaker’s team is actually a clear underdog. However, in this case the Rapids are the defending champions whose front six look identical to last year’s squad—- they are not wholly expected to lose this game.
Has anyone else been hearing these comments? Sorry for the length of this post, but I wanted to see if anyone else had heard things like this.

-120
Sounders are -120 on the money line and -110 -1/2 goal so I’d say they better win this game, yup.
I understand they are the favorites
But not heavy enough favorites to warrant their fans throwing in the white flag. We aren’t dealing with TFC here…

Well if the Rapids players want to throw in the towel early, I'll have no problem taking the three points.

2011 Buffalo Bills - as of right now, guaranteed not to lose a game this year!
Burgundy Wave - SBnation's Colorado Rapids site
Crystal Palace FC - Eternally a point from relegation (._. )

And I don’t think being scared of being wrong is my problem, if my predictions all went the way that I had originally guessed the Rapids would be somewhere around 10-5-5 right now. (oops) In fact, I haven’t flat out predicted a big loss in this manner since way back when they played Salt Lake without Mastroeni.
Colorado is going into this game in a stadium where they simply don’t win while in one of their now famous summer ruts, still without their full starting XI in good health in general and with a good chance of starting Palguta or Earls because Gary Smith seems to like drinking heavily before turning in his lineup every game. If the Rapids win this game then yes, I’ll be pleased, but more than that I will be greatly surprised. Pardon my realism.

No need to apologize for being realistic
However, this is the MLS. Any team has a halfway decent shot of winning on any given day. Unless that team is Toronto.
Did Sigi stumble in drunk again?
You rascal…

I'm not sure he's totally match fit
He looked pretty gassed when he came out vs LA; he has played fairly well, though, this season. he probably should have had 2 assists and maybe even a goal vs LA. I wouldn’t mind seeing him as a sub vs Colorado.
Would rather see Fucito as a sub tomorrow

Depends on if we're winning
If we’re ahead, put in Noonan (better defensively). If we’re tied or behind, put in Fucito.
On Noonan
I’m interested to see more from Noonan. He seems to have a decent pedigree, especially as a goalscorer.
Admittedly, I’m not as knowledgeable as the writers on here, but can someone let me know where the anti-Noonan vibe comes from? Did he have one big mistake, or just constant mediocrity, or has he just been a non-factor?

From what I think:
When they picked him up (after he was waived, and after he’d fallen far from what his prime was) he had a pretty high salary. He was always hurt. When he did play, he did not play well. And he hardly ever played.
He kinda became this high salaried thorn in the side of the team, getting paid but on a seemingly perma-injury. But here he is now, starting to tear things up. I don’t think people mind him as much anymore either because he makes like a third of what he used to make from what I understand. I’ve never really been a fan, but I haven’t hated him either as others have.

Sorry
I just can’t get behind Noonan. I realize that he used to be a great player, but mired by injuries for so long I just don’t see him returning to that kind of form. Reserves and USOC, okay, but I didn’t see anything on the LA game that made me think “man this guy really is coming back” he had a couple decent plays but had some really crappy ones too.
Missing a penalty
against Philadelphia last year did not help his cause. Aside from a good showing against the Revs in our 3-0 home win, he was uninspiring in his few performances last year.
This year, he’s been a solid performer in the reserve league, but the sticking point for many fans is the $98k salary he carried through March. I believe it was negotiated down for his 3-month extension, but I’m not sure for how much.
Dear God
Can we please get over the matchday rain? I just woke up to the sound of rain through the open window and my first coherent thought was, “Again??”
