The chart from last year's CCL match down at Monterrey always makes me tear up a bit. So close, yet so far.

Josh Mayers just tweeted

the starting IX from that game.

Boss, Scott, Marshall, Graham, Wahl, Estrada, Seamon, Fernandez, Montano, Fucito, Jacqua.

Is that right?

Do we dare consider that we might actually field something similar to a starting IX this time around?

"starting IX"

It is only fair to Monterrey that we put nine players on the pitch. It gives them a sporting chance.

(Seriously though, if that is what Sounders started last time then it makes me optimistic that we could pull one off if we put on our league starting XI.)

That was last years line up

Marshall and Montano aren’t on the team anymore.

I know.

In referring to “that game” I was referring to the one charted out above.

I find myself being reassured that the team that dropped two and who gave up a quick three had no Montero, Keller, Riley, Parke, Hurtado, Alonso, or Rosales.

Assuming we play something similar to our starting IX, Monterrey is facing a vastly improved side over the one they eked out a win on last year.

Graham

Joshua Mayers also tweeted that Graham was on the plane to Monterey. If we are using a starting 11, why did he even travel? worried

well, he was in the team picture from the airplane

one think i’m pretty certain of is that we won’t see a regular starting XI. Those guys can’t play 4 games in 10 days with two 100 degree days in the middle.

0 points on 3 matches last year coming into Monterrey Away

Circumstances were different with the chance for advancement all but lost. Hence the reason for the B squad lineup. I wouldn’t be shocked to see some of those faces show up given that they stood toe-to-toe with Monterrey for much of the game. Here’s my projected starting XI:

Boss, Riley, Ianni, Scott, Wahl, Noonan, Alonso, Frieberg, Fernandez, Jaqua, Fucito

I think this is what redemption feels like

And I kinda like it. Boss, especially, has got to feel stellar after pulling off the clean sheet in this one.
