US Open Cup Final Tickets On Sale Sept 6th
Last year the Seattle Sounders set a record with 31,311 tickets sold when they beat the Columbus Crew in the 2010 US Open Cup Final. As the club attempts to push back their own record (because we know they will) they start the journey with 15$ seats that go on sale on Tuesday September 6th, 2011. It is nearly certain that the various Supporters Groups will have their large swaths of tickets, and of course this gives the people of Seattle an opportunity to see a Championship on home soil (or rubber). The Chicago Fire are this year's opponent. Holders of four Open Cups their path included two USLPro teams and a New York Red Bulls team that practically withdrew. This will be their biggest match of the year, and traveling support should be expected.
With a game like this the Sounders can be very flexible in adjusting how many seats they can sell. There is no need for an artificial limit, and with the game on national TV (Fox Soccer) there will be a significant push. For those aspiring soccer evangelists a match where history will be made regardless of who wins is probably a good place to start.

Not to take anything away; Fire also beat Colorado and San Jose to qualify for the tournament proper.
the Rapids didnt have a full bench
and San Jose put a PK off the crossbar

Does this mean
Season ticket holders don’t get any priority at all like they did last year? I don’t really care cause I’ll be going anyways, but I am curious.
Just emailed
my rep about this, we’ll see what he says!
STH presale
Mail will go out this afternoon to STHs allowing them to buy only their seats (no extras) before tickets go on sale to the public on Tuesday. If you want more seats, you’ll have to wait till Tuesday.

Dang
I liked it better last year when they just gave STH’s priority sales without having to buy their seats, since I want an extra seat. Last year I don’t think they could do it this way because they didn’t sell tickets on the 300 level at all. This probably means they expect more season ticket holders to actually buy tickets this year.
This will be an awesome final
You will have us going for the 3-peat and CHI throwing everything they have at this as its most likely the only hardware they will have a shot at this year—their biggest match of the year as Dave says.

Looking at the fixture congestion the next month and a half, I really hate the Union right now
MLS games every Saturday from September 10th to October 22nd. CCL games or the US OC final every week except for between the October 8th and 15th MLS games. The team will play 9 games from Sept 10th through October 8th and 12 through October 22nd.
What’s especially frustrating is that the US OC final on October 4th should be followed by a 10 day break, but instead the team has the rescheduled Union game on the 8th.
we did get an unexpected break earlier in year tho
Not the worst trade off.

True. I was trying to find the original date on Soundersfc.com and it's no longer listed on the web view
It’s listed as July 23rd on the printable schedules still where it would have been between the Man United friendly and the game at San Francisco.
In hindsight, it’s hard to say what a home game against the Union in between would have done. I don’t think the team would have treated the friendly any differently and the First XI should have been well-rested for the Union match. On the other hand, a larger loss in Panama would have been possible with a team coming off a game a few days prior. A larger loss there would have changed the complexion of the second leg at CLink.
I take solace in the fact LA has a busy upcoming schedule as well
Our depth has shown it can keep us competitive too.

They also play more difficult teams
and more tough games on the road.
Our remaining MLS schedule is a joke.
Our remaining away games are at the last place Whitecaps, the last place Revs, and Chivas.
Our remaining home games are against RSL, Union, Quakes, and DC.
Compare with LAG who have away games at Sporks, Red Bull, Crew, and Dynamo. All four of those are tough games.
LAG also has RSL, Chivas, Rapids, and Whitecaps at home.
We have a much, much easier road ahead of us.
Plus LA also has all their away CCL matches to play
They’ve only played 2 home games thus far. That definitely adds to the travel.
It does result in a nice long home streach though.
4 games in a row at home, over 21 days. The road trip right before the final will not be that much fun though (Van, Comunicaciones, New England). At least the Van game does not require air travel.
Have we used our available charter flights this year? That might be a good streach to use them. From what i remember last year MLS teams can charter planes if they choose to a limited number of games.
As long as we get 4 pts out of the next 2 CCL matches against Herediano
I’d bet several of the starters won’t travel to play Communicaciones, either. It’s still a bit tough with games on opposite sides of the continent before the final, but oh well. At least we won’t have to travel for the actual game itself.
It's too bad about the timing of the game.
Middle of the day on a Tuesday is definitely not going to maximize the attendance.

Ticket sales start not game time
The ticket sales start at 10 AM on a Tuesday. The game kickoff is at 7 PM.

…and I just realized the time I saw earlier in an article from a Chicago newspaper was incorrect. 7pm on Tuesday is just fine.
