Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Comstock and Adams will guide strategies for promoting Olympic sports within the NCAA, encouraging the use of institutional facilities in creative ways, creating coaching education and fundraising programs that increase the value of at-risk programs and Olympic sports at the institutional level, and ensuring a continued review of the mutual obligations of all the involved stakeholders.

NCAA and US Olympic Committee to cooperate

For those paying attention, Men's Soccer is an at risk program. Not just due to title IX, but also because of large rosters and lack of financial support through donations or gate.

If the NCAA can work with the Olympic Committee, could it work with USSF?

At Risk Really?

UC Berkeley recently cut 5 sports due to budget cuts but soccer was not among those cut:

Men’s Baseball, Men’s Rugby, Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics, Womens Lacrosse.

A case study of one is pretty awesome

Men’s soccer has been a decline.

Also, Cal brought back baseball due to some famous donors.

What do you mean ?

“Men’s soccer has been a decline.”

Non-revenue sports are ALWAYS at risk…except womans when they have less than mens and the school wants to be compliant.

How is it in a decline?

do you have any numbers or examples of programs being shut down?

Because all I see is it’s getting better. The professional success of Akron alumns, increased TV coverage on CBS college sports and FSC, better players coming into programs b/c professional soccer is a more realistic goal for athletes today than 10-15 years ago, more competition for spots.

Win or lose, we'll always be there for you.

Quality is up

but the number of programs just aren’t there.

I would think

That this is a HUGE boost for non-revenue sports at colleges.
The difference being the non-revenue sports AND USOC have a ton of money.

Soccer is still an Olympic sport and has been since before even my parents were born.

The Olympic committee obviously has a vested interest in having the colleges train, pay and weed out their future athletes ( just like MLS, US Soccer are doing )
