Sporting KC Vs. Seattle Sounders, Matchcard: Our Hopeful Projected Lineup

Photo

Considering there was 120 minutes of soccer played on Wednesday and many of the Seattle Sounders starters played most of them, there's really no telling for sure what kind of personnel Sigi really has available to him for Saturday's game against Sporting Kansas City. Making matters worse is the forecast which suggest temperatures should be in the low 90s or high 80s with intense humidity following the possibility of thunderstorms earlier in the day. Should be fun!

Rather than try to get inside Sigi's head, we've decided to give what we feel is the best lineup with a realistic possibility of actually playing. Fredy Montero, we think, will almost certainly start. The same could be said for Kasey Keller, James Riley, Jeff Parke and Osvaldo Alonso. The rest, though, are pretty much guesses.

Our thinking is Servando Carrasco gets the nod in the middle, as it appeared that Erik Friberg may have suffered a slight injury on Wednesday. We also think Lamar Neagle is almost guaranteed to start and we're hoping it's with Alvaro Fernandez on the opposite side. Pat Noonan is the other possibility.

We're going to expect Patrick Ianni to be back in central defense, although Zach Scott acquitted himself well on Wednesday and would not shock us there. The same could be said with Leo Gonzalez vs. Tyson Wahl. We picked Wahl, but would not be upset to see Gonzalez.

The other dice roll is at forward where we are sticking to our guns and pushing Sigi to give Mike Fucito a start. He seems like a good matchup for Sporting KC.

As you may have noticed, The Daily Wiz has gone a bit dormant recently. But Andy Edwards, the former manager, was nice enough to give us a projected lineup. Give him a follow @KCSince88. Worth noting, Roger Espinoza will miss the game while serving a red card suspension.

Never thought I'd say this

but this is a game that I’m afraid to watch. KC is on fire right now, and after 120 minutes of hard rough play, I’m hoping and praying for at least a draw. Mainly hoping our D doesn’t fall asleep.

I would be alright with a draw

SKC is going to make a strong run to the playoffs, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them make a run once they’re there. It seems like the team has gelled now with the pieces they brought in. In a weak Eastern conference, they will continue to make noise.

Seattle has Kansas City fans extra jacked up

Sporting faces toughest test, Livestrong hosts strongest team yet tonight against Seattle.
Weather might not be so hot. As a Sporting fan I’m nervous, but in a good way. Livestrong was built the way it was for games like tonight’s.

I agree

I think whatever the result, this is setting up to be an ugly, draining, phyiscal grind-out game because of both teams having played so recently and because both will most likely be pushing hard to win in the heat and a bit sluggish. I’d be very satisfied with a draw in this one. I’m worried this could be Houston Take 2.

Also agreed on a nerve racking game

between fretting on our game and being forced to route for FCD, Saturday looks to be a day of heavy…well, heavier….drinking.

Is this lineup

with the assumption or knowledge that Evans is also not ready to go?

by agtk on Aug 5, 2011 3:05 PM PDT reply actions

Evans is in the DOUBTFUL category

If he was better I’d guess they go with him

No OBW on bench?

I didn’t see him on the injury report and, given others’ fatigue, would seem to be a great game for him sub in later on.

Did I miss him not traveling?

The team doesn't release travel rosters

maybe we're limited in choices in the midfield

But I can’t say I’m a big fan of pairing Alonso and Carrasco in the middle. From what I’ve seen from it before, they have more of a tendency to get in each other’s space than compliment one another. I think Carrasco is better utilized as an alternative to Alonso when he can’t play, rather than playing with him.

OBW and Amadou Sanyang

So when will we be seeing these two on the pitch? I know its a match fitness thing for OBW, but you cant be match fit unless you get into a game. I know a reserve game is coming up but how long do we wait on this since this transfer window is ending soon.

I want to add tallent probably more than the next guy

But these 2 are already on the team. And with the way our transfer window is going who knows whats going to happen. We have an amazing winger in Rosales who crosses the ball beautifully. For now it would be great to have OBW at the end of those

Fucito seems to be in the Sigi doghouse

Noonan, Jaqua, Levesque, OBW, and some guy we sign at the KC airport are playing ahead of Fucito.

no, it's not that...

it’s just that he’s inadequately slow, too accurate with his passing and strikes a true ball rather than putting a slop bouncer on frame.

I'll admit a couple of those guys are better passers

but yeah, I’m confused

Yellow Card Accumulation

During the SKC match, Arlo mentioned that Fredy and one other player had 4 yellow cards accumulated.

In future game day cards, can you include yellow card totals or players with 4 YC? For the 4 YC players, could you also include a number of games since last YC (useful for counting towards 5 games in a row so they reset to 3).

Since this is so late after the game itself, I’ll probably report this request on the Chivas game day card.

Thanks,
