New York Red Bull To Make Aggressive Fall Marketing Push
They are now expecting to average over 20k on the year, currently at only 18.8k for 2nd best of MLS 1.0. MLS 2.0 teams are still 800+ average gate better than 1.0 (including new KC stadium). All Garber teams at +5121.
Also, there is a note that the MLS on NBC deal could be worth 20M$, and that could move the salary cap needle.

We took some friends from Boston to the game yesterday
They’re big time Red Sox fans, but hadn’t really paid any attention to soccer before. They were really surprised at the visibility that the Sounders had around town. The Revs are basically invisible, so much so that they didn’t even know they were nicknamed “The Revs”.

That's NYRB
And this can only be good for the league. The RBs would also be helped if they didn’t suck so much.

Anything that moves the salary cap needle is a good thing
Healthy leagues and full(er) stadiums is a plus. I really wished that NYRB could be closer to the 25k capacity for their stadium. Hopefully their marketing helps that.

Their price increases won't
Ticket prices for 2012 will be double what they were for 2010

When the Cosmos come back
I would expect NYRB attendance to drop as fans jump ship.

I was thinking the same thing as the Cosmos have some history

The Cosmos have real trophies
They needed to be dusted off and polished up, but they’re real trophies none the less. The NYRBs have nothing and look like they won’t even make the playoffs this year despite having the highest salary total in the league.
If you think Red Bull is missing the Playoffs
You think that Portland or Houston will. I still think RBNY has a better chance than those two.

I don't know if Portland will make the playoffs...
But I think that Houston and the Union can probably beat NYRBs for the last two spots. Why? Defense. The Red Bulls may have one of the easiest schedules left, but it doesn’t matter much if they continue to leak goals to teams like the Whitecaps.
They had plenty of rest and should have walloped the Whitecaps. It just looks like a couple of key members have already checked out for the season (e.g. Rafa Marquez). Some of the other playoff teams may be less talented, but I’ll bet on a well-organized team that gives a crap over a dysfunctional star-studded team any day of the week.
The Cosmo's have a name that I wouldn't be ashamed to cheer.
How can anyone stand to cheer for the New York Five Hour Energy Shots without feeling at least a little embarrassed?
