Current All-Competitions PP90

UPDATE 11/4: Now with all 2011 competitive matches.

This is just meant as a reference to a stat that we use at times. The role listed is the primary one based on usage and playing style. This will be updated within a day after each match. At times an assist is taken away or granted by MLS, USSF or CONCACAF and we'll try to catch those as they become apparent. Reserve games are not counted. Regular season, US Open Cup (including qualifying), CONCACAF Champions Leauge, MLS Cup Playoffs and possibly other tournaments will be.

Got it.

Funny that it took the idea of bonus points to sign up to SBNation and post. I have been reading SAH for close to 2 years now as a silent observer, but anyways…

It looks like the sorting is: 2011 season PP90>2010 season PP90>minutes played in 2011 season.

by sspring on Sep 19, 2011 8:42 AM PDT up reply actions

This is close

2011 PP90
both ’10/11 PP90 which defaults to ’10 really
minutes in 11

It's obviously sorted based upon heirarchy

of the player’s standing within #churchoffucito

Montano on top? hmmmm

Yes, this year's PP90 is the primary sort

But there is a 2nd and 3rd sort as well in case of ties

Judging by Parke/Riley

One of them is goals scored…
No idea about the other though.

The highest PP90 isn't at the top?

No GK

I realize Keller hasn’t scored, but keepers occasionally do. Both on flukey long drives and on late game set pieces.

Like this awesome clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGkxvL65Tt4

That actually got me thinking. For all of Keller’s accomplishments over his lengthy career, Keller has never scored a goal as a pro. At least according to Wikipedia.

So, let’s get him one.

He can’t be any worse at taking a PK than anyone else on the team.

meh

I’ve always done them for outfield players. I had a different set I was working on for Keepers, but with only 4 non-Keller starts so far it didn’t seem worth the effort.

13 goals 10 assists

I don’t think anyone can argue Montero’s DP status at this point in the season….A streaky player, that everyone cries for benching when he’s in a slump but in reality does better over teh course of a year than most people.

71 points in two years

it’s incredible how good he is when he is on.

How many Sounders have scored a brace this season?

It seems like many more than last year, but that’s just my impression.

"It's scintillating, it's sensational, it's Seattle Sounders FC soccer."

by LoiteringWithIntent on Sep 28, 2011 10:55 AM PDT reply actions

To answer my own question

With entirely unscientific googling results, I think the list is, Montero, Alonso, Neagle, Flaco, Fucito, Levesque, and Evans.

Aka, everyone, except Rosales, who has more than two goals on the season.

Who would have guessed that Alonso would have 6 goals this year?

Certainly not me. He’s had a lot of epic goals this year….

I count minutes played per the League's system

which I think is just 1 minute for any stoppage time appearance.

What's Fucitos PP90

when we don’t include matches against PDL sides (Pumas) and matches in the ’10 Champions League after the team was pretty much eliminated? With limited minutes from ’10 because of injury and really scoring a goal in 5 minutes against Kansas City and then not really playing the whole year his two year total is inflated. I was all for church of Fucito until I started analyzing the real numbers.

And realized the vast majority of Fucito’s goals have come against Sub-Par competition and in tournaments after the Sounders were all ready eliminated. When I see him in a match against MLS competition, I never really expect him to get the first goal or the game winning goal, but if we are all ready up 2-0 and everyone has to worry about all the other players scoring he might dink one in against Columbus if we win 6-2. Right now the only thing that seperates him from the other forward options is his speed and his ability to pester defenses, and he just gives the physical play to the defenders as much or sometimes even more then they give it to us and I think that is vital, but I don’t expect to see him starting next season. He’ll continue to do well in the US Open Cup/CCL but I just don’t think he has it at the consistently starting MLS level. now a 75th minute super sub against a tired defense and that’s when he is at his best.

by python6114 on Oct 18, 2011 12:35 PM PDT reply actions

He's twice earned penalties

and at least twice not been given a clear penalty, so defenders don’t agree.

Yeah

Sorry Dave but I know one of those PK’s was just Fucito spinning out of the way of the ball and the unexpecting defender had the ball bounce and hit his arm. Crafty play, but certainly not some sort of last resort type of penalty. And counting not being given clear penalties in the MLS could inflate anybodies numbers.

by python6114 on Oct 20, 2011 2:56 PM PDT up reply actions

I didnt count that one

I did count Olave pulling him down from behind
And then a game at CLink when he was crushed in the box at about the 14th minute. Later in that same game another defender took him down worse, but since they’d already gotten one PK they weren’t given another.

I don't think the Sounders play in a way that benefits his abilities in general

Kind of like Le Toux. He has definitely helped the Sounders off the ball when he’s not scoring though.

Everyone scores more against bad teams than good teams

That’s the difference between the bad teams and the good teams. If you’re going to start breaking down by situation and opponent, you have to at least take a cursory look at how league averages break down by situation and opponent.

by ubelmann on Oct 19, 2011 1:25 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree with that

I agree, but I also think if you break down by opponent and situation you’ll find that the numbers do not favor Fucito. Especially now when we are taking on the top 10 in MLS in the playoffs. Ochoa’s pp90 is higher and he scored his first goal when we were losing infront of 64,000 on Kasey Keller night, to me that says scores in pressure situations which is what you need in the playoffs.

by python6114 on Oct 20, 2011 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Ochoa scored his goal at home

He also scored it late (when scoring averages are higher) and against a team with a below-average defense. He was also a reserve with fresh legs, which makes his feat less impressive. There were plenty of things going against that as being an impressive goal.

by ubelmann on Oct 20, 2011 3:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Ochoa scored one goal

One

Against a bad team.

That brings his 6 year total to 3 goals.

Fucito has scored in MLS play this year against two teams better than that (DC, Columbus) as well as two against Comunicaciones a team that would be better than average in MLS. Yes, a brace only against Pumas. The same Pumas team that won the PDL championship and has a keeper on the Sounders.

Last year he scored against Monterrey.

To say he only scores against bad teams is to ignore that at least he’s scoring against those teams. Well, and that they aren’t bad.
