Jeremiah Makes Case For Mauro Rosales As MVP
Also with an intriguing story about an agent pitching the player in a men's room. For me though this is the quote that should be able to sway more players to come to MLS;
"I pushed all the benefits of playing here: excellent training facilities, a safe atmosphere for players and their families, paychecks that don’t bounce, etc.," Sala explained in an email. "Selfishly, he was a dream client because I knew his skill level and I knew that he would fulfill the MLS mission to grow the game with fan-friendly, hard-working players. I didn’t want a prima donna, a has-been or someone with zero interest in promoting the sport here."
Spain and Italy had/are having strikes because of a failure to pay players. Safety in Latin America, as well as payment, is a major issue. If there is one thing MLS is it is stable.
Rosales will nearly certainly get the Newcomer of Year, the only question is how high will he also finish in the MVP.

Really cool article
Definitely adds to the legend of #TheTrialist. And what a legend he’s becoming in rave green.
when will he stop being a dark horse and a good solid candidate?
He’s on a white hot team. He will be in the playoffs. Excellent stats. And key is one of the key reasons we are white hit right now. How is this dark horse? Just because he was an unknown prior to this? Ferreira wasn’t exactly a world class name before his blowout season, but proved himself worthy of the honor. I think Rosales has proven himself on and off the field in a very big way.
There are a lot of factors involved that don't relate to his play on the field
The same as DeRo got POTM over him for August, despite, IMO, not playing as well. It also hurts him that we have so many other good players on the team so he doesn’t stand out as much as he might (though you could also say that those players also make him look better, especially in the assist category). There are also politics and possible voter laziness (how much will they really bother to watch him enough to compare him to Donovan or Henry?)
Re: Donovan and Henry
I totally agree with you there. Guys like them get lots of instant press. So does a guy like Shea who’s not only doing well, but is becoming the new national team golden boy. I guess thinking about things in this sense, it makes sense why he’ll never be more than a dark horse

Invert the question
Who is his competition?
Landon?
Shea?
The list has to be very short at this point based on the Sounders performance relative to the league. And he is the clear favorite from within the Sounders. The only other player on the Sounders who could compete with him is Keller.
Henry has huge numbers
and Montero’s having a strong year too. Jeremiah notes it in the article.
