Seattle Sounders Qualify For MLS Cup Playoffs Thanks To Seb Le Toux

KANSAS CITY, KS - SEPTEMBER 23: Sebastien Le Toux #9 of the Philadelphia Union is congratulated by teammates after scoring during the game against Sporting Kansas City on September 23, 2011 at LiveStrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

Yep, the 1-1 draw in Kansas City tonight was very, very good to the Seattle Sounders. According to the notes in today's preview the result was enough to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs.

  • If Sporting KC and Philadelphia play to a tie on Friday, Sounders FC will be assured of a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs. They will also secure their berth with a single point vs. Vancouver, or if Colorado loses, or Houston ties or loses, or New York and Portland tie.

  • While Sporting Kansas City looked likely winners, the Philadelphia Union came back to tie. The game-tying goal was slotted by a former Sounder. It would seem that Sebastien Le Toux is still able to help the Rave Green. While the opponent likely won't be known until the last week of the regular season, one of the goals of the team was met while they weren't even playing.

    Sounders earned this

I get it that the tie result officially moved Seattle into clinching a playoff berth. But it is the Sounder wins and draws that truely earned this not the Seba goal. Here is hoping for lots more points heading into post season!

    start of the season

early in the year we didn’t know where the goals were coming from with white n zakuani hurt most people said we were lucky to barely make the playoffs look at us now

    Amazing how things change

In pre-season we were one of the favorites to win it all. A string of bad results against good teams dents everyone’s confidence. Nkufo leaves while Zak and OBW are injured. Everything thinks we’ll be lucky to make the playoffs. Now we’re one of the favorites again. Huge props to Sigi and Adrian to build a team ove the last three years with such depth and spirit.
