Reports Would Mean First Kick Won't Be At CenturyLink Field
Assuming reports out of Toronto are true, the MLS season will start the weekend of March 10. With the Sounders already scheduled to be playing CONCACAF Champions League that week, this would mean an end to the three-year tradition of First Kick being held in Seattle. Not the worst tradeoff in the world, but an interesting note.

This means we get to play on a weekend, right?
Which I definitely see as a bonus. Being highlighted as a premier venue in MLS is nice and everything, but weekend games are better.
Actually....
I’m kinda hoping they give us the opening week off. There are 19 teams after all.

Would I be correct in assuming that the MLS will have a hard time scheduling the Sounders next year?
Specifically if the Sounders qualify for the 2012-13 CCL. The Sounders would get the RSL early season treatment and then the CCL group stage mid to late season treatment. The middle portion of the season would be very congested.
I guess the only options then is to win the MLS cup so they can skip the CCL prelim round next year.
It will probably just mean we play twice a week like we did for most of this year...
its gonna be so great, good news is we will automatically qualify for Open cup later stages, and if we win mls cup, we skip prelims. Dave or Jeremiah, what happens if we qualify for CCL by winning USOC, MLS cup and SS (I have hope for a BoSox like collapse from LA)

We would get automatic entry...
I assume the runner up in USOC would get prelim entry and the second-place overall points would get an automatic entry.

and if we get only USOC and mls cup runner up?
still only a prelim berth?

Duplicate USOC-MLS-SS winners
If there are any duplicate winners between the USOC winners, MLS Cup winners, SS winners, and MLS Cup runners up, then the top teams from the table are placed into the CCL.
For example: Seattle wins the USOC and the Galaxy takes the SS and MLS Cup over, say, Sporting Kansas City, then 2nd place gets a berth. Assuming we’re second and since we already have a spot, third place gets a berth, say, RSL.
I don’t know who would get the second group stage berth as LAG would take both spots. I’d hope 2nd place in the table takes priority over USOC and definitely over MLS Cup runners up.

There's no evidence that if the USOC winner qualifies through another manner
That the slot would be handed out based on MLS play. The USOC winner didn’t qualify on MLS play.

How many games could the Sounders be looking at next year? I'm thinking no to any friendlies...
36 MLS regular season matches
Up to 5 MLS playoff matches
Up to 4 USOC matches
Up to 6 2011/12 CCL Quarter, Semi, and Final matches
Up to 2 2012/13 CCL Prelims
6 2013/2013 CCL Group Stage
So that’s up to a total of 59 matches depending on how everything shakes out. Compare that to 34 MLS (plus 4 playoffs), 4 USOC, and 8 CCL matches this year for a 2011 max of 50 matches.
the schedule will be 34 games...
but other than that, yeah, it’s a lot of potential games.

I'm guessing this would mean more of our regular season games would be on the weekend.
That would be absolutely awesome!

Don't think that will be case
We only had two weekends of this year. The problem isn’t that we’re taking weekends off, it’s that the schedule is jam packed and the only way to fulfill your schedule is to play during the week. That’s unlikely to change next year.

I don't know about that.
I haven’t looked into it, but it seemed like the league was scheduling our regular season games on Saturday while we were playing the CCL games. I think we would have gotten more mid-week games if we weren’t in the CCL.

Just a thought
First kick seems like it should be the champions hosting the wooden spoon. Or champs hosting the expansion team, if there is one that particular year.
