We'll have more shortly on Ross Fletcher, the new voice of Sounders FC. But in the meantime you can enjoy a reel of him calling some soccer (and basketball).

The video is blocked
it apparently contains content from the International Olympic Committee who has blocked it from display. But if you click the youtube logo in the bottom right corner, it’ll play for you.
Bleh
its redirecting me to youtube home page
Oof
I switched over to another video that can be embedded, but yeah Hooligan’s link is the better video (more play by play, less presenting)
Nos Audietis
I hope Arlo got him up to speed on the Dairy Queen plugs
Should be an exciting season with Ross and Kasey!
Go banana!
I'm a fan
Nice reel. Given the occupations of Drew Carey and Joe Roth, I was 100% confident that they would find a great replacement for Arlo. Fletcher seems like a real pro.
Fletcher quote:
“The supporters are already legend, and I look forward to witnessing the dedication and passion of our fan base first hand.”
Love it.
He sounds composed and intelligent
No complaints from me. Looking forward to seeing him an Keller team up.
Welcome to Seattle, Ross
sidenote: strong celebration fail at :36
At least
he can fake it. Imagine when he really IS excited.

From Arlo White on Twitter:
“Congrats to 2 very good friends @KaseyKeller18 & @RossFletcher1, the new @soundersfc booth combo. Talented, knowledgable, passionate.”
I'm really excited
What an incredible job by the organization.
His call at 1:07 sounds exactly like an Arlo White call.

*And I mean stylistically
His voice is obviously a little different.

Safe
They went safe. Get the closest talented guy to Arlo they could get. He seems great, I hope he prepares as well as Arlo and maybe add a coolness factor that Arlo was definitely missing.
Arlo isnt cool?
Considering he’s a Ginger, I’d say he’s cool enough. Nothing more insufferable than an announcer who tries to be as big as the game he’s calling.
Go banana!
out of curiosity
what would have qualified as daring?

Personally I think hiring a duck would have been a really bold move

Not this one!
I fucking hate you Mariners
Daring
I would have rather seen them go after someone with a higher relate-ability factor…an American most likely. One interview and we already have the overuse of the word brilliant. Go for a young talanted guy…if they were going to play it safe like they did, then go for a Rob Stone type. Someone people can relate to. I think the Sounder’s hands were tied and they would have been run over for listening to me….much like I probably will be for even suggesting Arlo wsn’t perfect……ps I liked Arlo.

"Someone people can relate to."
Um, I’m having a hard time relating to this statement.
Maybe I’m not one of those “real” people.
I personally don't care where the person comes from
Unless they are from Washington it’s all the same to me (would love to have the voice be a local). I already watch a ton of shows from the UK on top of EPL so I really don’t notice the way they talk anymore.
I think Keller will fill the "relate-ability factor" void pretty well

I'm sorry, "void" for whom?
I think the “we” that includes all of us in the world, region, and city who love the Sounders may just be quite a bit more diverse than you and some others seem to be suggesting.
Are you suggesting there are Sounders fans out there that can't relate with Kasey Keller more than with an announcer who was just brought in?
I met a possum.

What I'm suggesting
has nothing to do with Kasey Keller.
Instead, I’m responding to the idea that “people” can’t relate with someone who is not American (see Charles J’s comment above). Frankly, I find that insulting and rude.
I’m an international. I’m also a US citizen. I did not grow up in this country. I live here now. I have lived in Seattle for many years. I love it here. I love the Sounders, and I will support them whether I live here or anywhere else in the world for the rest of my life.
The assumption that hiring an announcer who is not American somehow leaves a “void” for “people” is not only an insulting and untrue generalization – it is especially untrue for me. If anything, I can relate better to this franchise the more they continue to embrace both the international and local aspects of the game (the booth included). In my opinion, that’s one of the greatest things about the sport – it so comprehensively engages both the provincial and the global, simultaneously.
Ross, if your reading this, welcome to Seattle buddy! It really is a wonderful place. I hope the years you spend working for the Sounders organization and living in this town are some of the best and most memorable in your life. Glad to have you as part of the team.
So going with someone none of us have heard of was not daring...
but going with an American would have? OK. Clearly we are looking for different things in this hire.

Well I think he means someone with little to no previous experience
And I use experience for lack of a better word. This guy’s called games in England during the Olympics before, whereas if they were to go with a young guy who was doing radio broadcasts for some USL team for maybe a year that would be daring.

Let's review:
http://www.sounderatheart.com/2010/2/10/1304374/arlo-white-to-succeed-kevin#30604689
There seems to be a bias at play here, and I’m not questioning its legitimacy; you seem to prefer an American in the booth, and that’s fine. There’s a legitimate argument to be made there. But don’t resort to meaningless terms like “relate-ability” when that’s not what you mean.
by Aaron Campeau on Jan 10, 2012 9:16 PM PST up reply actions
hmmm
I think there is a bias but it is not on this side. Having domeone that is rellevant to his audiance is a legit concern.

What?
Relevant? How is he not relevant? Does he make incessant Kid ’N Play references of which I am not aware? Big Brian DePalma fan? Closet full of double-breasted, day-glo blazers?

I can see why having someone who grew up in America announce soccer is appealing
Someone who understands the backseat the game takes in the sporting world and is willing to help out new viewers who might not be the most familiar with the tactics and the difference between good and bad players. At the same time, any competent British announcer should be able to do the same thing, and it sounds like Ross has does his homework on the team and its history.

Quit it
Quit calling people names when you have no idea what you are talking about.
Then you quit
putting on the air of xenophobia (which is clearly just a fascade). You said back when Arlo was hired “dumb” and now you say you like Arlo. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

This post here from the Sounder's site sounds like he initiated contact with the club regarding the job:
“When he learned that White was moving on to NBC, he reached out to White and got in touch with the club and the process started.”
It seems to me that he definitely wants to be here.
We'll See
I feel like trying to make a judgment about Fletcher now is equivalent to trying to make judgment about a player based upon youtube clips.
How 'bout a post from a guy who just was on the Conference Call?
Ok, two of the guys.
Jeremiah and I were both on the call. Here’s a post where you can get to know Fletcher.
