Five MLS matches on NBCSN this summer will be proceeded by the Olympics, which the network hopes will attract scores of new American soccer viewers.

Good to see some extra funding, I guess…
Except my memory of NBC's olympic coverage is not favorable
Lets see. Delays of 3 hours for events occurring in our time zone. Hours of USA centric “up close and personal” garbage, while ignoring ongoing live events. No coverage of almost any athlete outside of the pre-determined “story-line favorites.” On and on it went.
My only enthusiasm for soccer on NBC is they’ll have Arlo. Once the match starts, NBC’s multitude of stupid people can’t screw it up too badly, though I am quite sure they will try.
As for NBC olympics, they made such a mess of Vancouver I am really not looking forward to them again.
NBC wasn't responsible for the three-hour delay.
Well, they kind of were, since it was their west-coast division that made the decision. Also, NBC’s showing every event live on television this year on one of their networks, so your second point is now moot. Also, there were tons of athletes that emerged from the Winter Games at some point, but they weren’t exactly the ones we were going to be talking about over Shawn White being the best trick snowboarder ever and Apollo Ohno becoming the most decorated American Winter Olympic athlete. I will point out that Evan Lysachek got tons of coverage after his win, but had little before the fact.
Still, the Winter Olympics are puny compared to the Summer Olympics, and I guarantee you NBC looks at the Summer Olympics as a much, much bigger deal.
I met a possum.
