Andrew Duran Newest Sounder With 15th Pick In Draft
With the 15th pick in the MLS SuperDraft Seattle Sounders FC went with Creighton University's Andrew Duran. Duran a versatile defender played at the Combine as a rightback, centerback and right midfield. The senior player was rated as a top 10 defender by Maureci.
Duran is one of three Creighton players at the MLS Combine. The Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 as a medical red shirt senior. Normally slotted as a left CB in college he led the defense of one of the top defensive teams in the 2011 college season.
At 6'1" and 160 he'll need to fill out a bit. He was the 2006 National High School Player of the Year. The marketing major grew up in the Chicago area. He finished his college career with 1 goal and 2 assists over his five seasons with only 2011 being as a regular starter after the 2010 meniscus injury ended that season early.

It doesn't help he looks like
Pat Noon. Regardless, I think he will fit in well, and make a positive impact. Hope he stays healthy.
Maybe this is his "cleaned up" look
cuz he looks more Levesquey here.

Are those grades based on criteria of a college player...
or how well Joe Maureci thinks they will translate to MLS?

How well translate
Hes a harsh grader. Only 8-10 players get A or B

Never mind then
Not that great a grade. Means he thinks there’s a slight chance he’ll stick with a deep team like Seattle
Depth in the trainer's room
Maybe he can carpool with Zakuani (leg), OBW (clots), Burch (foot), and Johanssen (knee) to PT appointments. If we sign Prince Tagoe (heart) they’ll need a bigger car though.
In the Sounders defense...
They picked Fucito despite injury concerns and it worked out well in the end.
Let's be fair
You left Evans off your list.

I figured Sigi could drop him off...

Thrilled with this pick
Yes, I would have liked to see Chandler Hoffman fall a couple more picks, but the Sounders just got a solid draft pick who fills a positional need. Duran had a strong combine and showed very well at both CB and RB. He even joined the attack and scored a goal in the third game.
A while back I wrote that Seattle’s remaining need this offseason was for the team to obtain depth @ RB and to secure some developmental depth on defense. With Sivebaek and Duran, the FO addressed these issues.
Duran may not be a sexy pick, but he should be a solid piece for the team.

Senior defender who kept opposing teams from scoring
Brian Holt, Creighton’s goalie, gets some of the credit.
But a defending player that limits the attackers to so few chances shows good instinct, fitness level, speed and ability.

He signed an HGP deal with the Timbers
rather than enter the draft. I’m doubting he wanted to play in Seattle.

Babayele Sodade
Sounders picked Sodade with their second round pick. One of the MLS mock drafters had him as Seattle’s first round pick. Fills another position of need.

SSFC coach Sigi Schmid called top draft pick Andrew Duran “the top-rated defender in our minds, based on the guys we saw here.”
