Their third use of MLS in various promos. If you had doubts that they get it, are they still there?

Seems like NBC is headed in the right direction...
I’m eager to see how aggressive they get with their advertising.
I don’t know if anyone else has followed the rebranding of Sunday Night Football for the NFL, but NBC saw significant increases in ratings from season to season. Part of the increase is probably attributed to the strength of the schedule, but they also have a strong brand that they build the SNF platform on. Additionally, they have a strong cast of studio and on-air presenters.
Hopefully NBC will employ a similar strategy with the NBC Sports Network branding. I think it’s a little farfetched to think that they’ll achieve the same amount of success as Sunday Night Football, but they could make a significant impact if they make it entertaining enough. The largest challenge they face is finding the middle ground where they cater to hardcore MLS fans and sports fans that don’t watch soccer on a regular basis.

Much better than the tunnel juggling
This one actually gave me goosebumps a little bit.

if I made judgments based on commercials
Id end up with a lot of bad crap. Also are all NBC sports ads in the same style? Or is it MLS specific?

the ones for NBCSports Network are in the same style
only the first one was MLS specific (looks very similar to the Adidas ad)
If I judged Fox Soccer’s MLS coverage based on commercials I’d think they didn’t cover it.

In this market if commercials aren't used
The crap wouldn’t be bought en masse, good or bad, so at least we’re seeing some good commercials as opposed to bad.
while we're on the subject
Does anyone else think Fox Soccer’s current promotions sound .. weird?
Example:
When they say … “Rooney and the Red Devils …. Messi and Barcelona”
It sounds very unnatural in American English to say that with only the last name. Are they mimicking Euro promoting with an American accent?
Example 2:
The commercial where all the pretty young people are driving along in convertibles waving European and/or USA flags. I can’t put my finger on it, but it just looks weirdly unAmerican or forced.
Conclusion: It would seem to me that if you are marketing soccer to Americans, you’d do better to show Americans behaving like Americans behave, rather than force some kind of international-beer-commercial otherworldliness upon them. But I’m not in marketing.

Yep,
That commercial with the people in the Lamborghini. I was like, if this is supposed to be connecting with me, it isn’t working. No wonder soccer has such a stigma in America, the only dedicated channel, can’t even make a commercial to connect to them.

Example 2
Seriously, my first thought on seeing that commercial (I haven’t seen much Fox Soccer over the last five months… am back visiting family right now and saw it a few times) was, “Wow, haven’t seen anybody who looks remotely like that at the pub, or at the games… or at anywhere else that has anything to do with soccer.” I could be wrong, though… maybe somebody can tell me which section has the models in it (certainly not 120).
You do all the work for us, Honey Badger, and we'll just eat whatever you find.
Romo and the Cowboys
Kobe and the Lakers, Jeter and the Yankees, Eli and the Giants, Brady and the Patriots, I think there’s a select few people and team combinations you can do it with, so I don’t mind that.
I didn’t realize they were in a Lambo, obviously they were going for youthful, fun, sexy, hip, but apparently wealthy is in there as well, so yeah that would exclude a huge demographic since only 1%ers can really do Lambos, I guess it’s the be like the cool kids theme.
Also
That rediculous Kumho tire commercial with the hot chicks driving a mustang convertible on the beach. It says absolutely zero about tires.

Great commercial - Passion, Suspense, and Anticipation
The thing this commercial nails is the passion, suspense and anticipation that are the core of soccer fandom for me. The emphasis on what is about to happen is something that is almost unique to soccer (long bomb in football? half-court buzzer beater in basketball?). Attempts to show a great goal miss the point for for me. This evokes exactly what makes me a fan.
Two commercials, two big market teams, no big names
So now we have had an LA Galaxy commercial and a NY Red Bulls commercial. I think we probably all expected those to be the first. I didn’t expect that none of the big, pricey DPs would feature in them.
I wonder if they’ll roll out a Seattle commercial next?
That's the thing, though
They don’t really need to cater to the Seattle market since it’s already on board. In the meantime NYRB has a market with a ton of untapped potential.

Our fans > NBC Producers
Fine… No great commercial, but I am reminded of that epic slow-mo vid that someone took from the stands of Montero’s goal in the US Open Cup Final. I must have watched that thing fifty times, although I can’t find a link right now. Predictable.
