US vs. Mexico (Women's Soccer)

The next US women's international game is set to start in the next few minutes, and it's not a friendly. The team is playing for it's right to play in win the London Olympics. The concacaf playoffs for that opportunity have been anything but competitive, but this game looks to be promising.

The US won their first two games in the group at 13-0 and 14-0, Mexico won theirs 5-0 and 7-0. Canada is the obvious third power in CONCACAF, but they are in a separate group. Join me in the comments if you are watching the match!

Interesting note

The last time these two teams met was during the world cup group stages, and Mexico won.

I wonder what the line would have been

On this game, if there was a line. Over/under of 5.5 goals, at least…

we look good. also, i like watching for one minute and seeing two goals!

Being in Canada all this week, I watched the Canadian game last night.

All that they talked about was how important it was for Canada to win their game so that they didn’t have to face the United States for their Olympic bid. They were taking totally for granted that the US would win today, of course.

Tranquilo?!

Brandi Chastain just told the Mexicans that they should be more “tranquilo” in this game. Really?

In a way, makes sense

They need to work to control the tempo when they have possession. Right now just matching US’ tempo and not controlling it very long.

Anyone with a beverage of choice this evening?

I am trying to clear out the cabinet a little, so went with Sprite Zero + Desert Juniper Gin

I had a $10 bottle of Magners earlier today.

I have decided against paying Canadian prices for any more drinks today.

I never understood Strange Brew

After I went to Canada and bought beer. They must have spent their entire paycheck on beer

Mexico... this reminds me I need to write a FanPost

About the FMF match I went to last weekend. Pumas v Morelia.

The crowd noise is amazingly pro-mexican.

It’s a bit disappointing considering this is in BC place so close to the US. I’m hoping I’m able to go to watch US win the final on Sunday when I’m back on the correct side of the continent.

Sounded pretty pro-American to me

lots of booing on Mexican fouls. Won’t really know until Mexico scores.

It was actually most noticeable during the anthems at the beginning.

It sounded like the whole stadium was singing the Mexican anthem.

Also, mic placement

pretty much means everything

Pro-Mexican

I was at the game – it was VERY pro-Mexico. Had nothing to do with mic placement. The lower bowl was less than half full so I’d guess there were around 5-6000 people there and each American fan was easily countered by 10 for Mexico.

I just realized it!

A Rod is the female version of Mike Fucito. Short. Speedy. And a bull-dogged work ethic.

Are you accusing Fucito of using steroids?

It sounds so much better

When you have a Canadian announcer and they say “Hat Trick”

by bmvaughn on Jan 24, 2012 9:10 PM PST reply actions

This doesn't even seem fair

It’s painfully obvious the American ladies are in a league of their own, physically and tactically.

Go USA. :D

by Lee Nathan on Jan 24, 2012 9:25 PM PST reply actions

well

at least mexico isn’t loosing by at least 10 goals.

by gstommylee on Jan 24, 2012 9:27 PM PST up reply actions

So in the last 3 games in aggregate,

The US has scored 31 goals, including 3 players with over 5 goals individually and has had 0 goals scored against them.

And if you count the Sweden game

That’s 32 straight unanswered goals.

Makes one wonder what the streak is…

by bmvaughn on Jan 24, 2012 9:29 PM PST up reply actions

It will be against Costa Rica and will be unlikely to be competitive.
