In his 29 games versus the Portland Timbers Levesque has 11 goals and five assists. Pre-match Sunday he will tally one more stat, this time as a recognition of what he has meant to soccer in Seattle.
Roger Levesque is a Sounder. For the past decade Seattle is his home. The Sounders are his team. On Sunday, before the Rave Green take the pitch versus his and their bitter rival to the South Levesque will be honored with the Golden Scarf. It will also be his first match as a fan.
Levesque spoke to the team site about his earning the recognition.
"I haven’t had a chance to really process the scale of that experience. I’m sure it’s going to hit me at some point," Levesque said last week. "Having seen some of the people that they’ve honored in this capacity in the past, it’s humbling for me to even be considered in that group."
That group includes Gabriel, McAlister, Nordstrom, Hinton, Henderson, McCrath, Fewing, Keller and so many more. It is a group that exemplifies "Once and Always a Sounder."
It will also be Roger Levesque's first Sounders game as a fan.
The March to the Match leaves Occidental Park at 5PM. Do that and ensure that you are there to celebrate a man who is Seattle Sounders soccer. And then watch a game with tens of thousands of others who are also Sounders.
