One of the little storylines buried in an eventful season was the brief trial of accomplished veteran Eidur Gudjohnsen. Gudjohnsen approached the Sounders mid-season - seemingly out of nowhere - and flew over for a brief stint. His stay included an appearance in a reserves match, in which he scored a goal. With little cap-room to work with, the Soudners were unable to retain his services. Adrian may have tried to pitch him on the "work for peanuts now and we'll take care of you later" model. He does have Mauro to point to as proof of follow-through on the Sounders end. In the end, Gudjohnson returned to Europe where he signed with Cercle Brugge of the Belgian Pro League. In seven games, he has already racked up five goals.
