Not Sounder related. This comes totally out of left field, but the source is reliable enough (and the people involved crazy enough) that it's actually plausible. Here's my take, from a Villa-centric angle.

Forgot the League Approval Angle
Fun story Aaron. In the recent discussions over whether the Sounders’ ownership is spending enough, I totally forgot that all moves need to be approved by the League. It is certain that the NYRB FO must be piping Frank Sinatra over the corporate loudspeakers.
