All of this is per Matt Gaschk
Sounders FC 1st period lineup – Michael Gspurning, Adam Johansson, Jeff Parke, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Leo Gonzalez, Mauro Rosales, Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans, Alvaro Fernandez, Mike Fucito, Fredy Montero.
Had heard that they were going to start the reserves since they are trying to establish a Wed-Wed schedule, but this seems very much the opposite of that. I wouldn’t expect them to play more than 30 minutes.
that group of players will go 60 mins

No, Gaschk said that one group will go 60 nd the other 30
he did not say which group would be which.

Evaluating the ability of the 2nd stringers
seems a better use of time. Tempo and skill will be in Crew match…
As Dave notes below
The starters will get extended minutes on Wednesday against the Crew, probably a better opponent than Orlando City SC.
This looks like our starters for Santos Laguna
I think they might go 60 to build fitness and rhythm together.
They will be getting a long run Wed. against the Crew

Based on Gaschk's summary
Sounds like 1st String dominating possession but final third still not crisp.
“2: Fredy Montero rolls it into to corner for Mike Fucito, but it skips away before he can get to it for a goal kick.”
6: Mauro Rosales gets into the right corner and crosses the ball to the box, but it’s defended clear.
7: Alvaro Fernandez sends a cross in from the left side and it skips off a defenders head and away for a corner."
That's a multi-year tradition in all games
Seattle dominates corners won!

Sounds like Gspurnie had to come out after the forward gets behind our back four
Tough position for any keeper to be in. Finishing is the biggest obstacle for the starters at this point.
I would
like to see Montero – Sodade pair up in preseason games just to see how the two would work.
Well that would be odd

OMG panic!
Goal against by Dennis Chin, who only had 2 goals in all comps last year.

Yes. Clearly this means...
that Orlando City is on par with Manchester United, as both teams achieved the same result against us after 30 minutes of play. Also, we should immediately begin questioning the wisdom of retaining Sigi as our head coach and having not done more to “blow up” our core over the off season.
Must have immediate gratification always!!!
(cough, sarcasm, cough)
Seattle’s second period lineup – Andrew Weber, Zach Scott, Andrew Duran, Patrick Ianni, Marc Burch, Christian Sivebæk, Servando Carrasco, Mike Seamon, Lamar Neagle, Sammy Ochoa, David Estrada
Or he's getting a test against higher quality opponents
in order to see if he’s good enough to be the #2

Or the Sounders want to lock him down
In order to gain greater exposure due to his appearance in the upcoming season of the Amazing Race.

I'm excited to see Estrada play this season.
Everything we are hearing this preseason sounds really promising.
Indeed
nice to see him pushing up his game.
Oddly in a 3 30 period game
Orlando massively subs at the 45

I am sure many of the players are excited about "debuting" against the Sounders
For the OC players this is a chance to measure themselves against an MLS caliber club.
Timing of the sub is the oddity

When does their season start?
I guess it’s technically a 90 minute game, just broken down into 3 parts.
Ochoa scores!
I blame my story

I understand why the club only liveblogs a majority of preseason games
but I so wish for multiple accounts of the game.

yea
makes it easy to understand whats going on.
Sivebaek was taken out
Levesque comes on
reports that he will be a keeper today are proven false

Because Meredith is playing now
Levesque actually hasn’t yet entered.
Still a chance to be keeper!

We know Levesque's a keeper
We just need to know the other roster spots…
good point

Levesque came on for Lamar Neagle
and a few minutes later Neagle came on for Ochoa

PK Woes continue
Carrasco earns a PK after being taken out by the GK, promptly clangs it off the crossbar and it’s cleared.
He should take some finishing lessons from Alex.
Oh Great were already missing PKs
88: Servando Carrasco takes the PK, but clangs it off the crossbar and it’s cleared away.
87: On a bouncing ball to the goalkeeper, Servando Carrasco knocks the ball into the air, then chases it down at the endline, where he is taken out by the goalkeeper to draw a penalty
I have played soccer since 82...
I have never been on a team that lets the person that draws the PK take the PK.
Call it superstition or just common sense…Carrasco owes the rest of the team a few pitchers of beer (also by team rules)….
The suspicion that the fouled player
should not take a penalty is about as far removed from common sense as you can get. the fact that some teams choose to observe it in the mistaken belief that it makes a difference does little more than confirm how willing we are to perpetuate a myth when some bloke down the pub tells us it matters.
And yes, “myth” as a description can be substantiated.

Carrasco has shown himself to be pretty good from a set piece. I don’t see anyone in the second lineup who would be a better choice to take it.
That makes sense really
Now I feel like the penalties I drew should have given me the chance to take the kicks. Instead of watching others gain the benefit of my body being fouled.
The part that makes the most sense is the comparison to basketball free throws.
Carrasco still owes the team beer however based on the miss. And I think I owe Targaff a beer or equivalent beverage for the fine bit of knowledge he dropped on me.
There's a reason I don't take penalties
Though it does make me wonder if there’s any correlation between “financial cost of buying a round” and penalty conversion success.
Missed PK and SI
Not only is he going to owe the team beers, but you know that he is going to get razzed about the body paint article as well…

Sounders in mid season PK form
"The fans are excited. And the stadium, well, it ignites with explosion."
I missed out on the liveblog.
Here I am now having read all of the comments in the liveblog and just a couple of comments away from finishing this thread. Everything sounds good, I’m in a pretty good mood. Then you just hadto ruin my day…

yeah let's face it
people can break these results down as much as they want, but there will be no real analysis until about 9:30 p.m. on March 7…
I totally disagree
There’s plenty to analyze about pre-season, but the results have nothing to do with it.

like I said
people can break these results down as much as they want
Agree there’s plenty to examine in preseason. Just saying it’s tough to make meaningful points when we’re “watching” this game via twitter and Sounders.com and we don’t even know who’s out on the field for Orlando, no?
Analysis for me is seeing how groups of players are working together
Like how well does Johansson work with the CBs and the RM.
It was mostly Rosales on the RM position.
Tonight's depth chart:
GK: Gspurnie, Weber, Meredith
RB: Johansson, Scott
R-CB: Parke, Duran
L-CB: Hurtado, Ianni
LB: Gonzo, Burch
RM: Rosales, Sivebaek, Cato
DCM: Alonso, Carrasco
B2BCM: Evans, Seamon
LM: Fernandez, Neagle, Levesque
FWD: Montero, Estrada
ST: Fucito, Ochoa
DNP (from memory) Blais, Ford, Gutierres, Sanyang, Tetteh, Caskey, Rose, Zakuani, Sodade, OBW
- surprises = 0
Seems like the 2-deep is getting pretty set, as is the starting XI for Santos Laguna
From Gaschk’s comments Estrada, Sivebaek and Ochoa all showed well in the attack.
