Perhaps the biggest news in the world of the Seattle Sounders this week was the women's team signing Hope Solo and Sydney Leroux. There haven't been a whole lot of official comments out of the Sounders so far, but GM Amy Carnell did have a rather long interview with Jeff Kassouf of This Week In Women's Soccer. Among the revelations are plans for Solo and Leroux to play four of seven home regular-season games with the W-League team, as well as three exhibitions, one of which will be against the University of Washington. She also seemed to strongly imply that all of the games are likely to be played at Starfire and that they are trying to move some games around to better mesh with various schedules.

Watching the match against UW should be interesting.
I really hope that when the schedule comes out we find out that Sydney gets to play for the Sounders against the Whitecaps women, but I might just be a terrible person.
Sounders 'til I die
Sounders play the Whitecaps 5/27 and 6/8
Olympics don’t start until 7/25, so I suspect one or both of those will be Solo/LeRoux matches

Amy Carnell on WPS in Seattle.
The WPS hasn’t presented a financaially sustainable model and I until they do, I think that’s really what’s holding back Seattle and some other west coast teams from jumping on board is, you know, they need a better model that’s going to last beyond 3 years. I absolutely think we have the market for it here in seattle, it’s just, you know, when that time comes. I think this is a big transition year for women’s soccer, a lot will happen within the next year.
