In Tumwater, the Sounders U-23 just beat the Timbers U-23, 1-0.
The Timbers had more of the play, especially in the second half. They failed to take numerous chances, due to a couple nice saves, a couple desperate slide tackles, a few shanks high and wide, and one clearance off the line that had Timbers calling for a handball.
In the 91st minute, the Sounders got their one good shot at goal. With the Timbers pressing for a winner, the Sounder goalie caught a cross and quickly launched a kick to the Timbers end. It bounced once, then a Sounder headed it from the left side of the goal to the right side, where the Timbers failed to pick up Jamael Cox. From about 8 yards, he side-volleyed the ball into the upper left for the winner.
Good crowd too, about 800 people, including 20-30 ECS in full voice.
