Sounders Centric Power Rankings Graph
Seattle's last two losses in all competitions are to the San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City. In some ways it is fitting that these are the only two teams ahead of the Sounders in the SB Nation MLS Power Rankings. Seattle is as high as it has been since week 11. The votes they receive are primarily for 2 or 3 with two at 4 and one at 5. Local participants ranked the Rave Green 2, 2, 3 and 3. Things are good for Seattle right now.
They aren't very good for Real Salt Lake. Kreis' side is plummeting. RSL is at their worst of 2012 and matches Seattle's 3rd worst ranking. It is too soon to say they are backing into the MLS Cup Playoffs, but they are clearly offering up Seattle and LA opportunities to succeed. The LA Galaxy have done just that. Like the Sounders the Galaxy are climbing, though slower. Their point total is not in as much doubt as those doing the rankings. LA now sits one good weekend back from passing Real.
That would force a once dominant Salt Lake team into the Play-In round against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Rennie's 'Caps aren't just faltering. They've reinvented themselves from being surprisingly decent to fortunate that the 6th best team in the West isn't very good. Take the Portland Timbers for example. At the beginning of the year they were expected to contest for a playoff spot and now they are hoping to not finish dead last.
