Earlier this week we found out that Mario Martinez would be joining the Honduran National Team for their World Cup Qualifiers versus Cuba. Now, the Sounders have released a statement saying that Adam Johansson will also be taking a leave of absence to help the Swedish National Team take on Kazakhstan. Johansson is the first European Sounder to leave the team mid-season to answer their country's call.
This will be the 12th cap for Johansson, who came to the Sounders in part to try to earn back a starting job for the Swedes. Since returning from a hamstring injury, Johansson has earned the call, helping the Sounders defense return to elite status while also adding two assists in the attack.
The Sounders release says both Johansson and Martinez will be available against Dallas this weekend, and are expected to rejoin the team in time for the Cascadia Cup fixture against Portland on Sept. 15.
