Newest Seattle Sounders Designated Player Christian Tiffert received his P-1 Visa and will be available for Sunday's game against the LA Galaxy, the team announced on Friday. Sounders officials had been cautiously optimistic that Tiffert would be available, but had expressed skepticism as recently as earlier this week.
Tiffert has said all along that he's basically fit and ready to contribute. After logging just two practices with the Sounders -- he wasn't there on Friday -- it seems unlikely that he'd start on Sunday. Considering how much the Sounders have raved about him, though, a 15-30-minute appearance would not be remotely surprising.
If Tiffert plays, it could possibly mark the first time in MLS history that six Designated Players had been on the field at the same time during a regular season match. The only other time it happened previously was when the Galaxy played the New York Red Bulls during last year's playoffs.
