Much can be gleaned by this particular animated gif from the Sounders FC versus Chivas USA game. If you were at the match or watched on TV, you could sense the urgency the team had as they pressed for the winner. You had an idea something special might occur as soon as Fredy Montero pushed the ball past his defender and sprinted (YES sprinted) down the sideline. Look closely and you will see Fredy briefly peek his head up, eyeing his target in the box. Switch your gaze over to the middle of the pitch where you will see Eddie Johnson begin his run down the center channel. Notice that he starts by drifting a little wide to draw his defender away from his intended final run. EJ bends his run back to the middle with perfect timing and hunts down Fredy's perfectly weighted cross with ease. If any lesser keeper than the fine Dan Kennedy were in the net, that #BoomBoom would go in untouched. In the end EJ gets his brace, the match winning goal, breaks the Seattle Sounders FC goals in a season record.
According to Joshua Mayers (@JoshuaMayers) EJ has the most headed goals in an MLS season since they stared recording such things in 2003. The Man with the Golden Head indeed.
