Even though it stemmed from an ultimately disappointing night, this memory will linger with me for a long time.
To simplify the situation -- Steve Zakuani is definitely on his way back. Scoring his first goal in just over 17 months seems like the bellwether of things to come for the Seattle Sounders FC's number 11. We lived through Steve's horrendous injury, his long road to recovery, and finally his triumphant return to the pitch. It might be impossible to put into the words what Zakuani was feeling in that moment, but to watch him celebrate his goal versus San Jose Earthquakes was our glimpse into his heart of hearts. It was also telling to see him run over to the home bench and give a big hug to the team fitness coach Dave Tenney, who was instrumental in getting Steve back onto the pitch. Unfortunately the Sounders lost the match, but if for one bright moment we were witness to pure joy. Congratulations, Steve.
