The Sounders have a problem lurking in the defensive half of the field. The club's last three losses have one thing in common. No, it's not shoddy play from the center backs. It's not our young phenom's one-on-one defending. It's not even questionable goalkeeping.
It's the freakin' nets.
- August 17: A 3-1 loss to Houston. Orange nets.
- October 5: A 5-1 loss to Colorado. Pink nets.
- October 9: A 4-1 loss to Vancouver. Pink nets.
If my math is correct, the 2013 Sounders have a -9 GD when playing with colorful nets. The 2013 Sounders have a +12 GD when playing with white nets. The proof is in the pudding.
The Sounders' last three games should all feature white nets. Clinching the Cascadia Cup and Supporters' Shield with a 3-0-0 finish looks all but guaranteed.
