I have to start off by stating this is my first ever post here and secondly I am not an expert when it comes to away travel and flight arrangements. I can say that I love to travel to away games. There is nothing I love more than the feeling of being a small but loud voice impacting and supporting our Sounders at an away match. I have gone to a couple away trips each year since 2009 including Vancouver, Portland, Salt Lake City, New England and San Jose. Except for randomly deciding two days before to drive down to San Jose every other away trip has been planned out far in advance. I have always wanted to go on an away trip during the playoffs, but many obstacles get in the way including money, time off from work, the last minute nature and unpredictability of where and when games will be played adds to the reasons I have never made an away playoff game. This year I decided it would be different and I will no matter what make it to an away game during the playoffs. Of course i had to pick the year of great parity with a lot of different possible playoff game scenarios. You should have seen the email I sent my supervisor requesting permission for time off, with four different possible scenarios in the next two weeks. Fortunately, the work situation is handled as I explained why and for some crazy reason (okay I kick ass, work hard and do my job and thensome) and they know I'm an obsessed Sounders supporter so they agreed to be flexible and allow me to have whatever time I may need. I sold them on my plan for smash and grab (fly in to destination on gameday, flight out next morning and be back to work the next afternoon), only missing a day and a half of work with any possible scenario. With all my nervous pent up energy tonight I started looking at estimated costs for flights. So below are possible scenarios with estimated flight costs.
1. WIN vs. LA, we play RSL on Nov 2 at home. We play @RSL Nov 6 or 7. Flights cost: $326-$437. More expensive if we play on Nov 7.
2.TIE vs. LA....If COL wins we play @LA on 10/30. Flight costs $275 in to Long Beach. If COL tie or lose we play @ home on 10/30.
3. LOSE vs. LA, if COL loses we play @home on 10/30. If COL ties or wins we play @ COL on 10/30. Flight costs:$280-$309.
I find it most interesting that our best case scenario to win and avoid the playin round involves the most expensive flight options with the most advanced notice. Any scenario I will be there loud and proud cheering on our boys to victory. Hope a lot of you join me. Go Sounders!
