BuzzFeed does a long-form look into the life of Kofi Opare, a rookie with LA Galaxy. The focus of the article is what the life of a draftee is like, making just $35,000 a year compared to his well-heeled Galaxy teammates. Sounders fans might be familiar with what this is like, with our knowledge of the lives of guys like David Estrada, Zach Scott, Lamar Neagle, etc. etc., but I always find it interesting to get a look at their perspectives. My favorite quote: "Fifty-fifty ball between me and Donovan or Robbie Keane, you just kind of…" He motions with his hands that he just lets them have it. "Before you go in for a tackle, you’re thinking, He’s worth millions. Let me get the other guy, the trialist." There is plenty in the article behind the scenes with the Galaxy, but a few other players and former players offer their perspectives, including our own Philip Lund. Well worth a read.
