Seattle will reportedly host World Cup Qualifier vs. Panama on June 11

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Official word has yet to come, but Grant Wahl is now attaching a date to the long-rumored USMNT match in Seattle.

Tickets still haven't gone on sale, but it's looking more and more like the United States will be playing a World Cup Qualifier in Seattle. The latest report suggests Seattle will host the June 11 match against Panama.

The earliest rumors suggested the USSF was looking at the June 18 match for Seattle, but it now appears that calendar conflicts at CenturyLink Field forced a change in date. The biggest obstacle is the University of Washington commencement ceremony on June 15, which would make it almost impossible to lay temporary grass any earlier.

Unless there's been a rather dramatic about-face, temporary grass was one of the biggest stipulations for bringing the USMNT to Seattle. A lack of grass playing surfaces has generally been considered the biggest obstacle for bringing a game here sooner.

While it's still obviously too soon to say, generally speaking local season-ticket holders have first dibs on getting tickets, the thinking being that those fans are more likely to root for the United States.
