Still playing a bit of catch up on the GIF creation, but there were a lot of memorable moments to save in this 2 game set.
Now, there have been people trying to decide why exactly the Sounders were able to come back in the second game. Was it the red card? Was it the home field advantage? Was it the inexperienced Tigres side? I hereby propose that the true cause was the lack of support for Tigres. In particular, their noble shirtless cheerleader was not here to pump up the Tigres.
Noble Cheerleader:
Sadly, that was the only highlight worth saving in the first game. Luckily, the number of highlights here in Seattle more than made up for that.
Another much discussed element of the game has been Viniegra's ejection. The original broadcast wasn't entirely clear in showing what caused the two cards. Let's put this discussion to rest by showing the clear time wasting. This first clip starts with the ref blowing his whistle for a foul. Viniegra clearly carries on to pick up the ball and toss it away from the where Seattle needs it for the spot. This earned him his first yellow.
Viniegra's send-off:
Having received a yellow for this clear time wasting, it was more than a little bit surprising when Viniegra went on to do almost the exact same thing again 8 minutes later. The ref is initially calling for play on in this clip, but you can see him blow the whistle just as Viniegra carries the ball back over the center line. Again, he carries on kicking the ball far away from the spot. This earned him the second yellow and an ejection.
Now, let's carry on with the real fun stuff.
Starting with Yedlin's first professional goal, and the spark that kicked off the comeback.
Diandre Yedlin's goal:
From 2 angles
and celebration!
Djimi Traore's goal:
From 3 angles
and celebration!
Eddie Johnson's goal:
From 3 angles
and celebration!
Now that's a lot of action for one game, and 3 amazing goals.
Spoiler alert: Any GIFs created from the first Cascadia match will not be nearly as exciting.
