The MLS schedule is a bit complex. They attempt to avoid FIFA dates as much as possible. Each venue is shared in some capacity or other. Teams are in national cups, CONCACAF Champions League and they slap in friendlies. Almost every team wants their matches on Saturday nights. A third of the clubs want to avoid March dates due to poor weather.
Those are all great reasons for the schedule to be what it is.
But, after seeing nearly 100,000 at those two games over the weekend today seems hollow. There is the Confederations Cup, but there is no America, no Sounders. The same is true for the Euro U-21 championship. The U-20 World Cup does not start for another six days.
Seattle Sounders Women played last night and Sunday. The Reign head to Portland to attempt to snatch a point. Sounders U23s face Crossfire at Starfire Saturday night at 8 PM. There is a bit of local soccer to keep the fire burning.
But after that bright blaze of the past week having this week off, a game next week and then another off week is just a big slow. Slow cooking can be fun, but passion burning bright for so long this let down in level is a bit much.
MLS games are plentiful with five matches. That weekend non-Sounders open thread will go up as usual. It will lack the intensity of local interest.
I guess I just want my 40,000+ friends back. We'll have to wait a bit.
