Honduras and the United States face off in the first of the CONCACAF Gold Cup doubleheader at Cowboys Stadium tonight. Sounders forward Eddie Johnson will reprise a new role in the match as he earns the start in a formation listed as a 4-2-3-1. EJ is at the one and gets time to shine as a target man with attacking mids buzzing around him, at least if it plays like it is listed.
#USAvHON XI: 1-Rimando; 15-Parkhurst, 25-Besler, 21-Goodson, 7-Beasley (c); 14-Beckerman, 11-Holden; 20-Bedoya, 10-Donovan, 16-Torres; 26-EJ— U.S. Soccer (@ussoccer) July 24, 2013
Facing a Honduras side that is trying to become a regular competitor at the top of CONCACAF. Beating Costa Rica to advance this far is a great first step for them. Former Sounder Mario Martinez did not start that match, but could get time with the quick next match.
While Dallas' stadium can hold the huge 80,000+ crowd it also has a very poor grass overlay and tiny corners that will prevent some players from serving the ball well.
Fox Soccer has the broadcast at 4 PM with Mexico v Panama in the other match in the doubleheader.
