As expected, Brad Evans, Eddie Johnson and Clint Dempsey were called up for the United States' World Cup qualifying matches on Sept. 6 in Costa Rica and on Sept. 10 against Mexico in Columbus. The trio will miss the Sounders matches against the Chicago Fire and Chivas USA on the 4th and 7th, respectively, but they should all be available for the Sept. 13 match against Real Salt Lake, for which the entire stadium will be open.
This will probably mean that we'll see Lamar Neagle at forward with Marc Burch and Servando Carrasco getting minutes in their midfield roles. Eriq Zavaleta can also probably expect to see some action with the uncertainty surrounding Obafemi Martins' ankle injury. Mauro Rosales will also be expected to start both matches.
The United States could punch their ticket to the World Cup with the right results this month, which would be preferable from a Sounders perspective, as it is widely believed that Klinsmann would opt to go with a younger lineup once qualification is assured.
