Hi, I'm Jackington! You may remember me from such Fanposts as Infrequently Asked Questions and Choose Your Own Adventures. I bet when the post asking for writers came out, you were wondering whether I'd include myself in the running. Well fear not, my fellow faithful fans, for following forthwith I shall nominate myself.
"But Jackington, who are you to write for Sounder at Heart?" you may ask. An understandable question, if not a bit naive. Self-summary commence:
- Fan of the Sounders
- Can read and write English
- Seattle born and raised
- Also a fan of the Mariners and the Seahawks and Everton
- Greatly dislikes the Timbers
- Couldn't give two shits about the Whitecaps
- Single (hey ladies)
- Has no children
"But Jackington, we're all fans of the Sounders and can read and write English and hate Portland. Why do these things make you qualified to write for Sounder at Heart?" you may reply. A valid follow-up question, my naive friend. Since I am single and without children, I have limited responsibilities and also time aplenty. I write for a career (we'll get into that later), so I'm able to convey my thoughts in an articulate, if not long-winded, manner. Being from Seattle, I moved away for college and quickly realized that the rest of the country sucks comparatively (I threw that in there for you non-Seattle-based Sounders fans), so I'm not going anywhere else any time soon.
For a career, I'm a grant writer for a non-profit. It affords me a lot of time to just sit and write and be online all day long. Plus I also benefit from having immediate family (Hey Brother) work in the newsroom who sometimes gives me an off-the-record scoop (which I obey, sorry guys) on breaking Sounders news. The downside of my job is sometimes I have to travel to project sites where there's no electricity, but that' doesn't happen often.
I am a fan of the Sounders, first and foremost, and I have well-informed opinions. I am not a current STH, which means that I watch home games on the TV, which also means that I spend a majority of these games on the Gamethreads.
In summary, I feel like I could provide a unique and occasionally humorous addition to the Sounder at Heart writing team. Oh, and sometimes I make images to help prove a point.
