First off, I'll start by posting off the roster for the team.
Of these 29 players, 25 of them have played in an MLS match this season. The players who haven't are Josh Ford, Blair Gavin, Will Bates, and Dylan Remick.
Now let's look at a typical formation for the Sounders.
Now let's take a look at depth in EACH position.
Goalkeeper: In that position we have enough depth, as we have Hahnemann (41) a fantastic keeper. Past him we have two more keepers in Weber (30) and Ford (25).
Left back: This is a position that we should be looking to upgrade, as Gonzalez (32) and Burch (29) are getting up there. Speed is of the essence in this position as a fullback should be pressing up the field but also able to get back on defense.
Center back: In this position we have Traore (33), Hurtado (29), Ianni (28), and Scott (33) all fighting for a position. With the current rotation of players this is actually good, as it gives us a chance to play different players with different strengths. Again, looking for a younger player would be nice in this spot as it give us options in the future, we have Remick (22), but as of now he isn't ready for a starting spot.
Right back: In this position we have Yedlin (20) who this season has become the undisputed starter. Yedlin is a fantastic player with only upward growth from now, so this could become one of our strongest positions. As a backup you could play Scott (33) in this position as well.
Central midfielder: Occupying one of our central midfield roles is the Honeybadger himself, Osvaldo Alonson (27). Other players who have occupied the other starting spot include Carrasco (25), Joseph (35), and Evans (28). Another player is needed in this spot, as Joseph has not been up to par, and the Sounders need to let him go.
Left midfielder: This spot is an issue as we have basically only Neagle (26) playing in this role. However seeing as Neagle is pushed up top when forward injuries occur, we don't have enough depth in this spot due to Martinez's departure and Zakuani's injury, leading us to put Burch in that spot. As much as I like Zakuani, it's not guarantee that he will be that same player he was before his injuries. Andy Rose (23) and Alex Caskey (25) are both quality backups and I would like to see them play more, even though this season they haven't played as well as last.
Right midfielder: In this spot we have Rosales (32), who has been looking more and more fragile every season. He is a good attacking outlet when we also have other options to attack through like Dempsey (30). Backups in this spot include Caskey and Evans. But looking at other right midfielders as a long term replacement for Rosales might be a good idea now.
Forwards: This spot is filled with depth even if Sigi doesn't play all the players. We currently have Martins (28), Johnson (29), Dempsey (30), Zavaleta (21), and Estrada (25). This season we have also played Neagle and Martins as a forward pairing leading to good results.
So that was an in-depth look at our depth (see what I did there).
