Already having sold about 60,000 prior to the signing of Clint Dempsey, the match against the Portland Timbers officially sold out today. Not a technical sell-out, a complete and utter sell-out. So, Seattle Sounders FC added 400 seats and are selling standing room only tickets. Those SRO seats are a first-ever in Sounders FC history.
The largest crowd in the history of CenturyLink Field is 68,331 for a Seahawks-49ers game. The expanded capacity will approach that number depending on the quantity of standing room only seats. The highest attended stand-alone game in MLS history was in 1996 when 69,255 saw the LA Galaxy play the New York MetoStars.
Welcome to the era when, for one game only (so far), an NFL stadium is not big enough for MLS soccer.
More than 6,000 tickets have sold since Dempsey Announcement
RENTON, Wash. - Seattle Sounders FC announced today the full stadium seated manifest has sold out for the August 25 match versus the Portland Timbers. Due to the high demand, the team will expand the capacity to include 400 additional upper level bleacher seats and standing room only. This will be the first time the team has ever sold these two categories for a Sounders FC MLS match.
The team also has 2-Match ticket packages available which includes home matches versus Salt Lake on September 13 and the final regular season match versus the Los Angeles Galaxy on October 27.
The 2-Match ticket packages are available by phone at 1-877-MLS-GOAL or online at SoundersFC.com.
