The Seattle Sounders have a chance to move into the Supporters' Shield if they can beat Real Salt Lake on Friday. That's a position the Sounders have never held this late in a season. Good thing the crowd on hand will be of ample size to potentially mark the occasion, as the Sounders have already distributed about 52,000 tickets for the game as of this morning.
Apparently, the vast majority of the tickets that have been sold were part of a bigger package, either season-tickets or the multi-game pack the Sounders have been selling most of the season. As of this afternoon, single-game tickets are also available.
The Sounders, as you probably know by now, have a pretty remarkable record when the crowds get over 50,000. They've played two games this year with crowds that big, beating the Vancouver Whitecaps (3-2) and the Portland Timbers (1-0). Going back to 2011 when they first dramatically expanded seating, their record is 6-0-0 with a 15-3 goal difference.
