I've dreamed of a day where the Sounders crest is recognized worldwide, and an opportunity has arisen to help me do a small part to make that happen.
On Saturday I'll be headed to Uganda with my good friend @pscottc to spend some time in Kampala, Gulu and Lira; our main destination will be to spend some time with the folks from Krochet Kids Int'l (http://www.krochetkids.org/who-we-are/) in Gulu. KKi strives to help the communities of Northern Uganda to rise out of poverty by creating sustainable economic programs.
In talking with the founders and volunteers of KKi (many from the Seattle and Orange County areas), they've noted how much love there is in that area for soccer/football; as evidence, @GuluUnited recently linked up with @BrentfordFC for a development program (http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/united-for-united-supporters-of-the-biggest-little-football-club-in-the-world).
Yesterday we realized that we have a large luggage allowance that we're not taking advantage of, so Scott and I began to find old suitcases to fill up with soccer gear. One other thought we had - what better a way to help spread the crest of Sounders FC in Africa than to bring some old gear to donate to the youth of the Gulu area? I'm bringing a number of scarves, Scott picked up a handful of old gear from local thrift shops and some balls, but now we'd like to see if we can ask for your help.
You may have an old kit, shirt, or heck even an old scarf; we'd like to ask that you consider donating it to the people of Gulu, Uganda to help spread the Sounders crest and to provide gear for their pick-up games in the area.
As a drop-off point, I'll be at Temple Billiards (126 S Jackson, http://www.templebilliards.com) on Friday before the RSL match from 5:00-6:15ish to collect any old Sounders (or other soccer-related) gear you wish to donate. After the match it will go straight into our luggage and out via Sea-Tac on Saturday morning en-route to Uganda.
Thanks, and let's spread the crest!
